Why Italy

Italy is the dream destination wedding: Renaissance villas, vineyard estates, and coastal luxury, drawing couples from India, the UK, the US, and Australia. Tuscany is the most popular region, followed by the Amalfi Coast and Lake Como.

It is a premium choice. An 80-guest celebration typically runs from around EUR 45,000 to 90,000, while intimate weddings and elopements can start near EUR 6,000. The best weather is May to June and September to October, and because the legal process and language take time, most couples work with a local planner and start 6 to 12 months ahead.

What a wedding in Italy costs

  • Elopement / micro-wedding: from around EUR 6,000.
  • Mid-size celebration: commonly EUR 30,000 to 50,000 depending on region and guest count.
  • Larger luxury wedding (around 80 guests): roughly EUR 45,000 to 90,000+.
  • Region note: Tuscany and Lake Como sit at the higher end; Puglia, Umbria and Sicily are more affordable.

Where to marry in Italy

Tuscany: rustic countryside, vineyards, and Renaissance villas (the most popular region). Featured venue: Villa San Michele, a Belmond Hotel (Florence).

Amalfi Coast and Lake Como: spectacular coastal and lakeside luxury.

Value regions: Puglia, Umbria and Sicily offer the same Italian backdrop at more accessible price points.

Plan it with our Italy specialists: our partner planners handle the local bureaucracy, venue sourcing, and language. Featured: Giritaly, Italian Style Weddings, Italian Weddings and Events.

Getting married in Italy: the legal bit

Italy allows legally binding civil ceremonies as well as symbolic blessings. For a legal marriage, you complete an affidavit (the Nulla Osta) through your home country's embassy, and Australians additionally provide an Atto Notorio (Notarial Deed) at an Italian consulate, then register at the local town hall (the Comune). Requirements differ by nationality, so couples from Australia, India, the UK, and the US should check their consulate. Allow 6 to 12 months; a local planner or our concierge can manage the paperwork.
