La Corte dei Papi is an 18th-century farmhouse manor in a small valley outside Cortona, surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and pines. Ceremonies are held in the flower garden or, when the weather turns, inside the house, where the Renaissance-style ballroom seats around 150. The garden and the large swimming pool frame the aperitivo, with the old facade of the house as the backdrop.
The relais has 16 rooms and suites in the manor and its outbuildings, ranging from deluxe doubles and cottages to spa suites with their own wellness features, including L'Antico Granaio suite. Rooms are furnished with period pieces and fine fabrics, so the house keeps its historic feel.
Dinner moves either into the ballroom or to the restaurant in the former cellar, with stone walls, beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. The kitchen cooks traditional Tuscan dishes alongside more modern plates, and menus are tailored for each couple. Because the whole relais can be reserved, most couples treat it as a private house for 2 or 3 days: welcome drinks by the pool, the wedding itself, then a slow lunch the next day before guests head to Cortona.
Guests who do not fit on site stay in Cortona or nearby agriturismi. Between events, there is the pool and spa, and Cortona's lanes and churches are a few minutes' drive. Montepulciano, Lake Trasimeno and the Val di Chiana are all within easy day-trip range.
