Choose where in Fiji to marry

Each region has its own venues, light and way of getting there.

  • Coral Coast

The Coral Coast is the stretch of Viti Levu's south coast between Sigatoka and Suva, lined with beachfront resorts on a fringing reef. 5 venues.

  • Denarau

Denarau is a resort island linked to the mainland by a short causeway, so a wedding here pairs beachfront hotels with a quick airport run. 3 venues.

  • Mamanuca Islands

The Mamanuca Islands are a chain of small resort islands just off Nadi, so an island wedding here is only a boat ride or short flight from the airport. 3 venues.

  • Nadi

Nadi is where almost every guest lands, so a wedding here keeps travel short and lets people step off the plane and into the celebration. 1 venue.

  • Suncoast

The Suncoast is the drier northern coast of Viti Levu around Rakiraki, known for reef diving, wind sports and a quieter pace. 1 venue.

  • Vanua Levu

Vanua Levu is Fiji's second largest island, reached by a short domestic flight, with the small harbour town of Savusavu as its main base for visitors. 2 venues.

  • Yasawa Islands

The Yasawa Islands are a long, mountainous chain north of the Mamanucas, with small resorts, villages and quiet beaches. 1 venue.

See why couples marry in Fiji

What draws couples to Fiji, place by place.

  • Island resorts in the Mamanucas

Most Mamanuca resorts sit on their own beach with reef snorkelling close to shore, made for smaller weddings.

  • Remote Yasawa island beaches

Small resorts sit beside Fijian villages on steep volcanic islands, with manta rays feeding nearby May to October.

  • Meke dance and lovo feasts

Welcome guests with a kava ceremony, a lovo feast cooked underground and meke dance on the sand.

  • Soft corals of Rainbow Reef

Dive Rainbow Reef in the Somosomo Strait, known for its soft corals, from a quieter Vanua Levu base.

  • Beachfront on the Coral Coast

Warwick Fiji's palm-fringed islet sits off the Coral Coast, where beachfront resorts line Viti Levu's southern shore.

  • Shark dives in Beqa Lagoon

Shark Reef Marine Reserve off Pacific Harbour, Fiji's first national marine park, brings bull sharks and 7 other species.

Know the legal side before you set a date

Yes: visitors can marry legally in Fiji on a special licence that waives the 21 day notice period.

The steps, in order:

1. Confirm you can marry: you must both be 18 or over, free to marry and not closely related. 2. Book a registered marriage officer: book a civil officer or registered minister of religion at least 2 weeks before the date for any ceremony outside the registry. 3. Gather your documents: get a Certificate of No Impediment or Certificate of Single Status from your home country, plus your other documents, with certified English translations where needed. 4. Request a special licence: write a short letter to the registry asking for a special licence, explaining why the 21 day notice should be waived, such as a short visit. 5. Apply in person in Fiji: arrive a few days early and attend a marriage registry or district office together, on a weekday, to apply for the special licence. 6. Marry within 28 days: marry within 28 days of the licence being issued, with your marriage officer and 2 witnesses present. 7. Sign and order your certificate: sign the certificate in duplicate. You keep 1 copy and the officer sends the other to the Registrar General within 7 days. Order a certified copy and, if needed at home, an apostille from Fiji's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Fiji

How many days before the wedding do we need to arrive?+
Plan to arrive at least 3 working days before the ceremony. You both need to apply in person for the special licence on a weekday, and registry offices close in the afternoon.
What is a Certificate of No Impediment?+
It is an official document from your home country confirming you are free to marry. Fiji requires one, or a Certificate of Single Status, from visitors marrying in Fiji, so request it well before you fly.
Which part of Fiji suits a large group?+
The main island of Viti Levu, around Denarau, Nadi and the Coral Coast, suits large groups thanks to road access and plenty of rooms. Smaller island resorts in the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups suit intimate weddings.
Will our marriage certificate be accepted at home?+
A marriage legally registered in Fiji is generally recognised in Australia, the US and the UK. Order an apostille from Fiji's Ministry of Foreign Affairs so the certificate can be used in other Hague Convention countries.
Which Fiji resorts host only one wedding a day?+
InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa at Natadola Bay and OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort near Sigatoka each host only 1 wedding on any given day, so the team and the settings are focused on yours. For more privacy still, Navutu Stars in the Yasawas can be chartered whole for up to 25 guests, and Likuliku Lagoon Resort is reserved for guests in residence, so there are no day visitors on the beach.
Can we include a traditional Fijian ceremony with warriors and a choir?+
Yes, several resorts build these customs into the day. At Castaway Island, 2 warriors escort the bride and the island's family choir sings. Likuliku Lagoon Resort offers a choir, a warrior guard and traditional wedding attire if you wish. At Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, warriors have carried the bride along the sand to lali drums and conch shells, and at Navutu Stars a kava ceremony usually follows the vows.
Are Fiji's wedding resorts good for guests bringing children?+
Many are, with clubs that free parents for the celebrations. Hilton Fiji Beach Resort runs the complimentary IKA Kids Club for ages 4 to 12, Malolo Island Resort has 2 free kids clubs, and OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort adds a nanny service so parents can enjoy the reception. Likuliku Lagoon Resort is the exception: it is adults only, so the guest list there should be adults.
Can we marry on a small island off the coast of Fiji?+
Yes. Warwick Fiji holds ceremonies on the private island home of Wicked Walu, its seafood restaurant, with dinner to follow. Radisson Blu on Denarau can arrange vows at Malamala Beach Club, a white-sand island reached by boat, and Likuliku Lagoon Resort uses Mociu, its private island 15 minutes away. Castaway Island is itself a private island of rainforest, reef and white sand.
