Plan a wedding in the Mamanuca Islands

On Castaway Island, the thatched Mokimokiti Cabana stands on a raised platform with views in every direction, and keeps you dry if the weather turns. The guest bures there have vaulted ceilings lined in hand-painted tapa cloth.

At Likuliku, dinner can be a candlelit table on a private deck above the lagoon. On Malolo, the two of you can come back after dark for a private dinner at the end of the Arrival Jetty, and the next day the Beach Bar serves a slow lunch with wood-fired pizza.

Get your guests to the Mamanuca Islands

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Nadi International Airport (NAN)
  • Transfer: Guests drive 20 to 25 minutes to Port Denarau, then cross by catamaran in 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the island. Seaplanes and helicopters make the hop in 10 to 20 minutes.

Give your guests more of the Mamanuca Islands

Days around the wedding fill easily:

  • Cloud 9 floating bar: Swim and lie in the sun at a floating bar out on the reef, reached by boat.
  • Monuriki: Take a boat trip to the uninhabited island used in the film Cast Away.
  • Sailing and kayaking: Paddle between the islands, or join a sailing trip across the lagoon.
  • Snorkelling and diving: Snorkel the reefs close to the island resorts, or join a dive trip to a nearby site.

Questions couples ask about marrying in the Mamanuca Islands

Can we say our vows over the water in the Mamanucas?+
Yes. Likuliku Lagoon Resort holds ceremonies on the deck of an over-water bure, beside its horizon-edge pool or on Mociu, its private island 15 minutes away by boat. Malolo Island Resort offers its arrival jetty as an over-water option, with the gardens and poolside as alternatives.
Can we hold the wedding ceremony on a Sunday in the Mamanucas?+
Not at every resort. Likuliku Lagoon Resort does not hold wedding ceremonies on Sundays, although a renewal of vows with a celebrant can take place that day, and Malolo Island Resort holds no Sunday ceremonies either. Your advisor checks the day of the week first and builds the rest of the weekend around it.
Where does dinner happen after a Mamanuca island ceremony?+
Usually on the sand or over the lagoon. On Castaway Island, Restaurant 1808 seats up to 100 on the beach beside an outdoor kitchen while the couple take a champagne speedboat cruise. At Likuliku, Saluwaki can be hired exclusively for up to 28 guests, with a lagoon terrace for cocktails. For just the two of you, Castaway can also set a secluded beach dinner with fresh flowers and soft lighting.
Will there be other people on the beach during a Likuliku wedding?+
No. Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Malolo Island is reserved for guests in residence and is adults only, so there are no day visitors on the beach during your ceremony. That makes it a quiet choice for a small wedding, and your guest list should be adults who stay at the resort with you.
What happens if Mamanuca wedding guests land in Nadi after dark?+
They stay a night on the mainland and cross in the morning. Seaplanes and helicopters only fly to the islands in daylight, and the catamarans keep to a timetable. We match each guest's flight to a crossing, so everyone reaches the island before the welcome drinks.
