Plan a wedding in the Yasawa Islands

In the Yasawas, Fijian warriors and a village choir can lead you to your vows, or you can keep it to the two of you. A kava ceremony usually follows, and drinks move to the sunset deck as the light goes.

Resorts were not allowed on these islands until 1987, so they stay small and many sit beside Fijian villages. Dinner can be in the beachfront dining room, with the sand just beyond the tables.

Get your guests to the Yasawa Islands

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Nadi International Airport (NAN)
  • Transfer: Yaqeta Island lies north-west of Nadi, and guests reach it by air or on the water.

Give your guests more of the Yasawa Islands

Days around the wedding fill easily:

  • Manta ray snorkelling: Snorkel the channel between Drawaqa and Naviti, where manta rays often feed.
  • Sunrise hike: Climb a summit such as Waya Lailai's for views over the island chain.
  • Island hopping: Hop between the island resorts by catamaran and see several islands in one trip.
  • Cave swim: Swim through a short tunnel into the inner chamber of a limestone cave.

Questions couples ask about marrying in the Yasawa Islands

Can we charter a whole Yasawa resort for our wedding?+
Yes. Navutu Stars on Yaqeta Island has only 10 bures and can be chartered entirely for up to 25 guests, so the island and its 3 private bays are yours. The full buyout applies to stays of 4 days or more, and your advisor confirms the nights when you hold the date.
How long does it take guests to reach the Yasawas?+
About 30 minutes by helicopter or seaplane out of Nadi to Navutu Stars, or longer on the water. The Yasawa Flyer leaves Port Denarau once a day and takes about 1 hour to the nearest resorts and around 5 hours to the far north of the chain. With one ferry run each way a day, guests should land in Nadi the day before.
Who arranges the marriage licence for a Yasawa wedding?+
Navutu Stars arranges the wedding licence and the tala tala, or priest, for you. Visitors marry on a special licence, applied for together in person on a weekday at a registry office on the mainland, such as Lautoka or Nadi, before you travel north. The ceremony needs a registered marriage officer and 2 witnesses aged 21 or over with photo ID.
What are the bures like at Navutu Stars in the Yasawas?+
They blend Fijian thatch with Mediterranean styling, and every bure has a king bed, a timber deck and a day bed. There are Garden Bures, oceanfront Waterfront Bures, Grand Bures with soaking tubs and The Sue Levu, a split-level villa of about 130 square metres with a kids' cabin. Each guest receives a 20-minute massage on arrival.
Can we elope in the Yasawas?+
Yes. At Navutu Stars on Yaqeta Island you can keep the ceremony to just the two of you. Dinner can follow at a candlelit table on the sand or beside the saltwater infinity pool, and the weekly lovo, cooked in an earth oven, makes a good night out among the other guests.
