Aslam Hussein developed his flair for design at the tender age of 16, while dabbling with threads and textiles at the family owned shop and he drew influences from popular Indian design techniques as well as those more close to home. Limited external stimuli meant he had to rely on his imagination in crafting his definition of fashion and letting it run riot is what has helped him hone his sense of design in complimenting unusual fabrics and colors in a creative way. With no formal design training and equipped only with raw talent, Aslam’s ambition was to break into fashion circles in the commercial capital Colombo and his sheet determination and passion to surpass the odds are what have driven him to succeed in establishing his presence today amongst Sri Lanka’s fashion elite.
