Plan a wedding in Bali

In the south, The edge Bali pours sunset drinks on the glass floor of its cliff bar before dinner. Inland, a wedding at Capella Ubud can add a Balinese ceremony and a water purification ritual at the temple on the sacred Wos River below the camp.

Grand Hyatt Bali runs Pasar Senggol, a night market with Balinese performances that makes an easy welcome dinner, and the larger resorts keep pillarless ballrooms for dancing later on. In Ubud, COMO Uma is compact enough that everyone walks between each part of the day.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Bali

Why do most couples hold a symbolic ceremony in Bali?
Because a legal Indonesian marriage has strict rules. The law requires a religious ceremony, both partners must share one of the 6 recognised religions, and non-Muslim marriages must be registered with the Civil Registry Office, with notice lodged at least 10 days before. Most couples marry legally at home and hold the ceremony in Bali with no Indonesian paperwork.
Which part of Bali should we choose for our wedding?
Choose by the setting you want, then keep guests close to it. The Bukit Peninsula around Uluwatu has clifftop ocean views, Nusa Dua has calm beaches and large resorts, and Seminyak and Canggu have beach clubs and dining. Traffic in the south is heavy, so where guests stay shapes how the weekend runs.
Can we walk down an aisle over a pool in Bali?
Yes, at four of these venues. Villa Vedas in Tabanan and MAMAKA by Ovolo in Kuta both build the ceremony over the water, and MAMAKA's rooftop stage holds up to 180 guests. In Ubud, Kaamala Resort has a floating stage for 30, and at Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua the aisle at The Cove holds up to 60.
Do Bali villas have a cut-off time for music?
Private villas usually do, so plan the party around it. At Villa Kailasha in Tabanan all music must finish by 11pm, and Villa Semarapura on Cemagi Beach needs management approval for music, guest numbers and outside suppliers. Your advisor confirms the finish time at your venue before the schedule is set.
Can we marry in a glass chapel in Bali?
Yes, and most of them face the ocean. AYANA Bali's glass-walled Astina Pavilion holds up to 40 with a 180 degree sea view, MERUSAKA Nusa Dua has a glass chapel for 20, and Renaissance Bali Uluwatu's glass pavilion looks over both ocean and forest. For a larger group, AYANA's Tresna Chapel seats 70.
Can our wedding guests sleep in tents in Bali?
Yes, at three Bali venues. Bali Beach Glamping in Tabanan has 50 air-conditioned tents with ensuites on the sand for around 120 guests, and Glamp Nusa has 40 air-conditioned tents for up to 100, each booked by one wedding group at a time. In the Keliki rainforest, Capella Ubud has 22 tents and a two-bedroom Lodge, each with hand-carved Balinese doors.
