A Bill Bensley tented camp of 23 private-pool tents in the Keliki rainforest, built for very small weddings and full-camp takeovers.
Capella Ubud is a camp for small weddings and celebrations. Vows are usually exchanged on a jungle deck framed by palms and banana trees, with a rattan arch or a native flower curtain as the backdrop. Couples drawn to local tradition can add a Balinese ceremony with penjor bamboo decorations and a water purification ritual at the temple on the sacred Wos River below the camp.
The camp has 22 one-bedroom tents and 1 two-bedroom Lodge, each styled individually with antiques, teak floors, hand-carved Balinese doors and a saltwater plunge pool. The Lodge works well for the couple or a family group, and categories also include Keliki, Valley, Forest, Terrace and River tents.
The reception moves to Mads Lange, the camp's split-level tented dining room with valley and rainforest views, or out onto its deck for a set menu under the canopy. For the smallest groups, an omakase dinner at Api Jiwa brings the chefs right to the table, and the Camp Fire becomes a relaxed place for a late drink, weather permitting. With so few guests in residence, the day feels like a private house party in the forest.
Guests gather in the Officers Tent for morning coffee, afternoon tea and the evening cocktail ritual. Days can be filled with yoga and Pilates, a session in The Armory gym, treatments in the Auriga Wellness spa tents timed to the moon phases, or camp excursions out through Keliki village and the rice fields. Ubud centre is about 20 minutes away by car.
With 22 tents and 1 Lodge, a small group can fill the whole camp.
The camp's design draws on 1800s European explorers who travelled through Bali.
Each tent has its own saltwater plunge pool set into the Keliki rainforest.
A water purification ritual at the temple on the sacred river can join the celebration.
Api Jiwa brings the chefs right to the table for an Asian barbecue dinner.
