Day 1 · San Jose
You are met at the airport and taken by shared transfer to your hotel for the first night.
Tortuguero
Day 2 · Tortuguero
An early start, with breakfast at a restaurant in Guapiles on the way. From there a boat carries you along the rivers and canals of Tortuguero National Park to your lodge, in time for lunch.
Day 3 · Tortuguero
A naturalist guide takes you by boat through the park's canals, lagoons and rainforest. Tortuguero is home to dozens of amphibian, reptile and mammal species, and its beaches are a nesting ground for green sea turtles.
Arenal
Day 4 · Arenal
Leave Tortuguero by boat and road for Guapiles and lunch at a local restaurant. A shared transfer then takes you on to Arenal, where the rest of the day is free.
Day 5 · Arenal
Spend the day as you like around the volcano and its national park, with its trails and wildlife.
Tamarindo
Day 6 · Tamarindo
Travel west to Guanacaste on the north Pacific coast. The afternoon is free at the hotel or on the beach at Tamarindo.
Day 7 · Tamarindo
A full free day on Tamarindo and the beaches around it, known for surfing, restaurants and an easy evening scene.
San Jose
Day 8 · San Jose
A free morning by the beach, then an afternoon transfer back to San Jose and your hotel.
Day 9 · San Jose
After breakfast, a transfer takes you to Juan Santamaria International Airport for your onward flight.

Fly into San José and head north to La Fortuna, at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, for two nights of hot springs, a gentle river float and lunch with a local family. Cross Lake Arenal by boat to Monteverde for a guided walk in the cloud forest, then return to the airport on day four.
