Day 1 · San José
You are met at the airport and taken by shared transfer to your hotel for a first night in the capital.
Tortuguero
Day 2 · Tortuguero
Leave early through Braulio Carrillo National Park towards the Caribbean plains, stopping for breakfast at Guápiles. From there a boat follows the rivers and canals to your lodge in time for lunch, and in the afternoon a guide walks you around Tortuguero village and its turtle museum.
Day 3 · Tortuguero
Spend two hours on the canals and lagoons with a naturalist guide, watching for some of the many reptiles, amphibians and mammals that live here. The afternoon is free to rest at the lodge or join an optional tour.
Arenal
Day 4 · Arenal
Return by boat and road to Guápiles for lunch, then continue by shared transfer to the Arenal area, arriving in the late afternoon. The evening is yours.
Day 5 · Arenal
A guide leads you along the lava trails of Arenal Volcano, explaining its eruptions and history and pointing out the plants and wildlife. Spend the rest of the day in the hotel's hot springs, warmed by the volcano itself.
Monteverde
Day 6 · Monteverde
Cross Lake Arenal by boat, then drive up through the changing forest to Monteverde at around 1,200 metres. The afternoon is free to wander Santa Elena, a small town of restaurants and craft shops.
Day 7 · Monteverde
The day is yours to explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest on your own, or to slow down and rest.
San José
Day 8 · San José
After breakfast, a shared transfer takes you to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your flight home or onward.
