Ask about datesCollect a 4x4 at your San José hotel on the second morning and drive yourselves to La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano for two nights. From there head up to the Monteverde cloud forest for a night, then down to Manuel Antonio on the Pacific for two more before driving back to the capital.

Arenal
Day 2 · Arenal
Your 4x4 is delivered to the hotel after breakfast. Drive yourselves to La Fortuna, home of Arenal Volcano, where the rest of the day is free.
Day 3 · Arenal
A free day to explore the area around the volcano, which still lets out the occasional plume of smoke, or to rest. La Fortuna is known for its wellness retreats.
Monteverde
Day 4 · Monteverde
Leave when it suits you for the Monteverde cloud forest region, where a near-constant mist gives the forest its name. The afternoon is free once you check in.
Manuel Antonio
Day 5 · Manuel Antonio
Drive down to Manuel Antonio, a small seaside village on the central Pacific coast known for its national park. The rest of the day is free.
Day 6 · Manuel Antonio
A whole day to spend on the beaches or in and around the national park.
San José
Day 7 · San José
Drive back to the capital and check in, then hand the car back at the hotel at the agreed time. The afternoon is free.
Day 8 · San José
After breakfast, a shared transfer takes you to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your flight home.

Fly into San José and head north to La Fortuna, at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, for two nights of hot springs, a gentle river float and lunch with a local family. Cross Lake Arenal by boat to Monteverde for a guided walk in the cloud forest, then return to the airport on day four.
