Walk among ancient stone across the region

Few journeys put you this close to the start of recorded history. You stand in the shadow of the Great Pyramid at Giza, walk the Siq into Petra and see Hegra's tombs rise out of the AlUla sand. A Nile cruise joins Luxor and Aswan, and each site comes with an expert guide who brings the carvings to life.

Between the ancient sites, there is time to slow down. Morocco's riads hide quiet courtyards behind the medina walls of Marrakech and Fez, and Bedouin camps in Wadi Rum serve dinner under clear skies. Tunisia adds Roman ruins and Saharan oases, and the Red Sea brings coral for diving and snorkelling.

Answer travel questions on the region

What visas do I need across the Middle East and North Africa?+
It depends on your passport, as rules differ by country. Australian passport holders, for example, need no visa for short stays in Morocco or Tunisia, can get a visa on arrival in Jordan, may need an eVisa for Egypt and need an e-visa for Saudi Arabia. Travel advice levels also differ across the region. Check your own government's travel advice before you book, as rules change.
Can we see Egypt and Jordan in one trip?+
Yes. Cairo and Amman are a short flight apart, so the Pyramids, a Nile cruise and Petra fit into two weeks.
Which months avoid the desert heat?+
October to April is the most comfortable across most of the region, with cool desert nights. Summer passes 40°C in southern Egypt and inland Saudi Arabia.
How long does a two country trip need?+
Twelve to fourteen days suits two countries, such as Egypt with Jordan. Your travel expert links them with one flight.
How should we dress across the region?+
Clothing covering shoulders and knees suits mosques, medinas and conservative areas, with a scarf for women entering mosques. Resorts and beaches are relaxed.
Which experience suits an anniversary in the region?+
A dahabiya on the Nile, a Wadi Rum camp under the stars or a Marrakech riad all suit an anniversary. Your travel expert tells each host about the occasion.
Is Ramadan a good time to visit?+
Sites stay open during Ramadan, though hours shorten and many restaurants close in daylight. Evenings are lively as families gather to break the fast, and the dates move about 11 days earlier each year.
