Ask about datesAfter a night at a historic Nairobi hotel, you drive north past Mount Kenya to the riverside reserve of Shaba for two nights. The journey then turns south to Lake Nakuru and finishes with two nights in the Maasai Mara before the drive back to Nairobi.

Nairobi
Day 1 · Nairobi
You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel, which opened in 1902 as Kenya’s first luxury hotel. Hemingway gathered with fellow travellers at its Thorn Tree Café, and the rooftop pool is a good place to spend the afternoon.
Shaba
Day 2 · Shaba
An early start north through tea and coffee country in the shadow of Mount Kenya, by way of Nanyuki and Isiolo, to the Shaba reserve where Born Free was filmed. After lunch at the lodge on the Ewaso Ngiro river, head out on your first game drive.
Day 3 · Shaba
An early game drive looks for lion, elephant, leopard, gerenuk and the reticulated giraffe of the north. Spend the middle of the day by the pool or on the river terrace, then go out again in the afternoon.
Lake Nakuru
Day 4 · Lake Nakuru
Drive south around Mount Kenya, past Thomson’s Falls at Nyahururu, to Lake Nakuru, game viewing on the way in. An afternoon drive in the fenced park looks for black and white rhino, Rothschild’s giraffe and the flamingos and pelicans along the shore.
Maasai Mara
Day 5 · Maasai Mara
Climb over the Mau Escarpment and cross the wheat country to Narok, gateway to the Maasai Mara. After lunch at your tented camp, set out on an afternoon game drive and return at sunset.
Day 6 · Maasai Mara
Morning and afternoon game drives across the Mara in search of the Big Five, with lunch back at camp in between. The afternoon includes a visit to a Maasai village.
Nairobi
Day 7 · Nairobi
Drive back through the farmland around Narok and across the Rift Valley floor, keeping watch for giraffe and gazelle. You reach central Nairobi at about 1.30 pm.
