Follow the coast road along the Saronic Gulf to the Corinth Canal for a short stop. At Mycenae you walk through the Lion Gate, past the Cyclopean walls and into the Treasury of Atreus. Cross the fertile Argolid plain to Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, with the afternoon free before dinner.

Day 2 · Nafplio and Epidaurus
After breakfast the morning is free in Nafplio, and the climb to Palamidi Castle is the one to make. At midday the coach heads to Epidaurus and its theatre from the fourth century BC, still famous for its acoustics, before the drive back to Athens.
