The best destination wedding dress suits the place you are marrying and survives the trip there. A gown for a Ravello church has to climb stone steps and arrive with covered shoulders. A Maldives jetty brings wind, Tulum brings humidity past sunset, and a Lake Como dinner turns cool after dark. The travel rules come first, then 20 styles grouped by setting, each with a real gown and, for most, a place to try it on.
Wedded Concierge can book a local dresser or steaming service near your venue; more on that after the gowns.
Prices checked October 2026 on each brand's or retailer's regional site, shown as AU$ · £ · US$ · AED where that market lists the gown.
The first test for wedding dresses for abroad is how they pack, so ask your stylist before you order. A silk slip folds into hand luggage; a full ball skirt with a long train may not fit any cabin allowance, and then the safe option is buying it a seat on an airline that sells one.

No airline below promises a wardrobe, so plan for the overhead locker. Each rule is from the airline's own page.
Flying from Australia:
Qantas: A soft garment bag ("for example a wedding dress") goes in the overhead locker or under the seat and counts towards your carry-on allowance. International Economy allows 7 kg; Premium Economy, Business and First allow 14 kg, with no single item over 10 kg (Qantas carry-on baggage).
Singapore Airlines: The dress can travel as carry-on within your cabin allowance, and you can buy an extra seat for it (Singapore Airlines non-standard baggage).
Flying from the Gulf:
Emirates: Business and First can carry a 7 kg garment bag as well as a 7 kg carry-on, as long as it is no more than 20 cm thick when folded (Emirates cabin baggage rules).
Etihad: Carry the dress as cabin baggage, free within your allowance, or pay for an extra seat by calling. Long-haul hanging space is very limited and not guaranteed (Etihad baggage FAQs).
Flying from the UK:
British Airways: You can ask about hanging space on long-haul flights. Short-haul aircraft have no wardrobe space, and you can call at least 24 hours ahead to ask about buying the seat beside you (British Airways packing tips).
easyJet: A wedding outfit on board needs a large cabin bag allowance. A garment bag that folds into the overhead locker does not have to meet the usual cabin bag size (easyJet restricted and unusual items).
Flying from the US:
American Airlines: A soft-sided garment bag can be up to 51 inches (130 cm) in length, width and height combined, and counts as your carry-on (American Airlines carry-on bags).
United: Your carry-on must fit in the overhead bin, at 9 x 14 x 22 inches (United carry-on bags).
Delta: Carry-on items must fit under a seat or in an enclosed locker, within 22 x 14 x 9 inches (Delta carry-on baggage).
A connection means a second crew and often a smaller aircraft, so check both legs, and the flight home. If the crew cannot take the garment bag, fold the gown into a carry-on case with tissue in every fold and have it steamed when you land.
For a Maldives resort, the seaplane is the tight squeeze: Trans Maldivian Airways allows 25 kg per person, made up of 20 kg checked and 5 kg of hand luggage, with no bag over 32 kg and excess charged at US$5 per kg (Trans Maldivian Airways FAQ). Three gowns and a veil will not fit in 5 kg, so pre-book extra weight or ask your resort how it can bring a second bag across, and keep the garment bag out of spray on the jetty. For the seaplane leg, pack the gown in a soft garment bag rather than a hard case, and confirm bag type and size with the operator before you fly.
For Tulum, the drive from Cancún airport takes about 1.5 to 2 hours by road (Rough Guides). Keep the garment bag with you in the air-conditioned cabin of the car, never in the boot or a van parked in the sun, and do the same on the Amalfi Coast road or a boat to a Positano villa.
Book your final fitting at least two weeks before you fly. Halfpenny London asks for 6 to 8 months for a gown to be made and altered (Halfpenny London FAQs). Karen Willis Holmes suggests 4 to 6 months for its made-to-order ELOPE and BESPOKE gowns (Karen Willis Holmes).
Couture made abroad takes longer, so ask for the lead time at the first appointment and add shipping. For a September wedding, order by the December before, or earlier for couture; for a June wedding, by the September before. Our guide on when to start wedding dress shopping walks through the months.
Ask your boutique to fold the gown bodice-up, with acid-free tissue in every fold, inside a breathable cotton garment bag rather than plastic. Watch them do it, and film it on your phone, because you will repack it alone in a villa bedroom for the flight home. Put a name card and a tracker inside the bag.
Unpack within hours and hang the gown somewhere cool. A steamy bathroom helps plain crepe and lace drop their creases. Keep silk crepe de chine and beaded gowns away from shower steam, where water droplets can leave marks, and leave those to a professional steamer. Our destination wedding checklist covers the rest of the trip.
For stone steps and a church, choose a column, a slip or a soft A-line with no train to carry, and bring sleeves, a topper or a bridal cape for cover.
The Amalfi Coast and Santorini share stone steps, summer heat and churches that often expect covered shoulders. The Vatican's dress code for St Peter's Basilica asks every visitor to cover their shoulders (St Peter's Basilica), which is a useful guide, not your parish's rule. Ask the parish office in writing what cover it expects for the ceremony.
Take flats or a low block heel for the lanes, and have every hem cut in the shoes you will walk in.
A bias-cut column skims the steps without a train to carry, and long sleeves answer the church question. The Danielle Frankel Paola is bias-cut silk wool with long sleeves and a cowl scarf that drapes down the arms. Silk wool and long sleeves suit a late-afternoon or September ceremony better than a July noon. Try it at Bloom in Newstead, Brisbane, Browns Bride in London or Rachel Scott Couture in Edinburgh (Danielle Frankel stockists).

Price: AU$9,546 · £4,991 · US$6,490 · AED 24,199
Crepe forgives folding, and a topper gives you sleeves for the church that come off for the terrace. The Grace Loves Lace Grace is ivory stretch crepe with a draped neckline; try it at the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth showrooms (Grace Loves Lace Australian showrooms). For cover, the Danielle Frankel Lulu topper is picot lace with long sleeves.

Silk crepe de chine is the lightest gown to carry and the quickest for a professional to steam, so it suits a July afternoon. The Grace Loves Lace Honey Silk is double-layered silk crepe de chine with a cowl neckline and silk ties crossed through an open back. Add sleeves or a cape for the church.

Price: AU$3,900 · £2,600 · US$3,650
A soft A-line in silk moves on a slope, and a side split makes stairs easier without shortening the hem. The Karen Willis Holmes Emma is silk, hand-draped over a corset, with an A-line skirt, a side split and fine spaghetti straps. The straps leave your shoulders bare, so plan a topper or sleeves for the church. Try it at Brides of Brisbane, the Karen Willis Holmes concession at 31 Vulture Street, West End (Karen Willis Holmes Brisbane).

Price: AU$4,990
A Lake Como wedding in September has days around 22°C (72°F) and nights around 12 to 13°C (54 to 55°F) (Weather2Travel). If your villa dinner is formal, choose a gown with structure, and bring a cape or sleeves for when dessert arrives.
The Vivienne Westwood Bridal Mabel is 100% silk with a built-in boned bustier and draping across the body, made in the UK in the shade Opaline. Boning keeps the bodice in shape after a flight, and the drape hides soft creases. Vivienne Westwood holds bridal appointments at 6 Davies Street in Mayfair (Vivienne Westwood Davies Street).

A high neck keeps you covered in church and warmer by the water, and the open back keeps it bridal. The Danielle Frankel Marika is a high-neck, bias-cut silk wool gown with a low back and Chantilly lace trim. Try it at Browns Bride on Hinde Street in London or Rachel Scott Couture on Dundas Street in Edinburgh (Danielle Frankel stockists).

Price: AU$11,017 · £5,759 · US$7,490 · AED 27,927
The Jenny Packham Capture is an ivory bridal gown with shimmering embellishment; try it at the flagship at 3A Carlos Place, Mayfair (Jenny Packham stockists). Pack beaded gowns flat with tissue between the layers, and never steam over the beading.

Price: AU$8,156 · £4,185 · AED 20,897
Halfpenny London makes its collection to order in a standard UK size, with interchangeable separates, by appointment at 10 Woburn Walk, Bloomsbury (Halfpenny London FAQs). Pair a structured skirt with a long-sleeve top for the ceremony, then swap the top for dinner.

Price: complete looks from £4,000
On a jetty, choose a gown that stays in place in wind and covers you without weight: a high neck, cape sleeves, or sleeves that come off for the evening.
An overwater pavilion means an open jetty, wind, teak boards with gaps and humid air. Ask the resort how exposed the jetty is in your month and whether the pavilion is covered. On inhabited islands and in greater Malé, dress is conservative (Smartraveller Maldives). If you want a modest wedding dress wherever you marry, the gowns below give cover through a high neck, cape sleeves or a lined yoke, and one through matching sleeves you take off for the evening.
A Maldives resort ceremony is often a symbolic wedding, which carries no legal obligations (Visit Maldives), so plan the legal marriage at home, before or after the trip.
For the walk, choose a fingertip or elbow-length veil pinned firmly at the crown, and save a long veil for portraits once the wind drops. Wear a closed, low sandal on teak, since heels catch in the gaps between boards. Our wedding veil guide covers lengths.
The Jenny Packham Water Lilly is a high-neck ivory gown with geometric embellishment and softly flared cape sleeves, which let air move along your arms while keeping them covered. Jenny Packham lists no bridal stockist in the UAE (Jenny Packham bridal stockists), so order it through the brand's UAE online store or try it at the Mayfair flagship.

Price: AU$9,003 · £4,620 · US$6,005 · AED 23,069
The Jenny Packham Nirvana has a sheer beaded yoke and full cape sleeves, with embellishment that follows the line of the body. Ask for the yoke and sleeves to be lined in ivory or your skin tone at the first appointment, so the coverage is part of the order.

Price: AU$8,458 · £4,340 · AED 21,671
One gown can carry you from the jetty to dinner if the volume comes off. The Elie Saab Bridal Fall 2026 Look 16 is a long-sleeved, fully embroidered mermaid gown with a matching removable overskirt (Elie Saab Bridal Fall 2026 Look 16). Wear the overskirt for the walk and portraits, then take it off for dinner on the deck. Try Elie Saab bridal by private appointment at its Dubai Mall or Abu Dhabi Galleria Mall boutiques (Elie Saab bridal boutiques).

Price: on request, by private appointment
If your celebration runs across a henna night, a nikah and a reception at home as well as the island ceremony, the heaviest gown does not need to fly to the Maldives. Keep the jetty look light and save embroidered couture for an air-conditioned ballroom. The Elie Saab Bridal Spring 2027 Look 12 is a long-sleeved drop-waist gown embroidered with stones, crystals and beads (Elie Saab Bridal Spring 2027 Look 12). Zuhair Murad's Spring 2027 bridal collection, now in boutiques, works in mikado, duchesse satin, lace and embroidery (Zuhair Murad Bridal Spring 2027).

If you would rather one gown did both, Rami Al Ali's Bridal 2026 Look 3 is an embroidered strapless A-line in tulle, worn with long, separate embroidered sleeves (Rami Al Ali Bridal 2026). Keep the sleeves on for the ceremony and take them off for the evening. See it at the Dubai showroom at Villa 697, Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah (Rami Al Ali contact).

For dinner on the island, ask your atelier to cut the evening look to the ankle, in a shared fabric or embroidery with the ceremony gown so the two read as one wardrobe. Our list of UAE-based bridal designers names more ateliers to ask.
Price: on appointment at Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Rami Al Ali
For a beach wedding dress in humid air, choose organza, fine lace or an open back, and plan a lighter change for the hours after the ceremony.
Tulum, Los Cabos and Bali bring late-afternoon ceremonies and receptions that stay outdoors, so you may be in your gown for six or seven hours. Leave a heavily beaded or boned gown out of a sunlit beach ceremony. See our beach wedding dresses guide for more gowns and our Mexico wedding guide for venues.
Organza lifts in a sea breeze and breathes, and a chiffon lining keeps it opaque without weight. The Danielle Frankel Noemi is a transparent organza slip with a horsehair-trimmed hem and a nude chiffon lining; try it at the brand's Los Angeles store at 8475 Melrose Place (Danielle Frankel stockists). Organza creases sharply, so book the steaming for the day.

Price: AU$5,134 · £2,684 · US$3,490 · AED 13,013
The Danielle Frankel Corinne is a double-layer silk organza slip with a horsehair-trimmed hem and hand-painted watercolour florals, opaque and still light enough to lift for golden-hour photos.

Price: AU$9,546 · £4,991 · US$6,490 · AED 24,199
An open back keeps you cooler and photographs well as you walk away. The Grace Loves Lace Mahala is a backless lace gown; try it at the showroom at 1510 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, Los Angeles (Grace Loves Lace Los Angeles). Lace hides travel creases and usually needs only a light steam.

Price: AU$3,250 · £2,400 · US$3,050
You can wear couture in Tulum or Cabo if you plan when you take it off. In a Cabo San Lucas wedding at Grand Velas, the bride wore four looks across the weekend: a custom Pedram Couture dress for the welcome party, an Alamour the Label gown for the rehearsal dinner, a Galia Lahav wedding dress and a Nadine Merabi jumpsuit for the after-party. Galia Lahav's Los Angeles flagship is on North La Brea Avenue (Galia Lahav stores). If your reception is outdoors too, hold the ceremony at golden hour, ask your designer about the lightest lining and boning the gown can take, and change before dancing.

A long gown gets heavy by the third hour of dancing in humid air, so plan a short dress for the after-party, and a welcome dinner look if your weekend has one. The Danielle Frankel Chantal is a relaxed hammered silk mini with a soft cowl at the back, and it folds into a normal suitcase.

Price: AU$2,928 · £1,531 · US$1,990 · AED 7,420
A detachable piece counts as a second look without a second garment bag, and it solves church cover.
An overskirt gives you a full skirt for the aisle and a slim slip for the lanes and dancing. Danielle Frankel's Maje gown is a V-neck bias-cut silk wool slip, and the Evan skirt is layered tulle on a boned silk wool yoke. A detachable train or overskirt is also the answer on sand, where a fixed train drags and bustle points take strain.
Maje gown: AU$9,546 · £4,991 · US$6,490 · AED 24,199

Evan skirt: AU$9,546 · £4,991 · US$6,490 · AED 24,199

The Danielle Frankel Elma Sleeves are tulle with Lyon lace bell cuffs, tie at the back of the neck and fold flat beside the gown.

Price: AU$1,898 · £992 · US$1,290 · AED 4,810
A floor-length cape covers you in church, keeps you warm by the lake after dark and comes off for dancing without help. The Jenny Packham Maeve is a sheer tulle cape with scattered crystals and floral appliqués that falls to the floor. Wear it over a plain crepe or mikado gown.

Price: AU$6,002 · £3,080 · US$4,005 · AED 15,380
Weigh travel and heat together:
Crepe: Forgives folding; heavier crepes feel warm at midday.
Silk crepe de chine: Light and quick for a professional to steam, but water droplets mark it, so keep it out of shower steam and pack it with tissue.
Chiffon: Airy and moves in wind, but it snags on stone and jewellery.
Organza: Breathes, but creases sharply, so book professional steaming.
Mikado: Holds its shape after a flight, but it is heavy and warm, so keep it for a cool evening.
Lace: Hides creases and often needs only a light steam.

In humid places, steam the gown on the morning, not the night before, so it spends as few hours as possible in damp air before you wear it. Book a professional through your hotel, villa or planner well ahead, and ask whether they have handled beaded couture. Hand steamers should never touch beading, glued crystals or pleated silk.

Ask your planner or venue for a local seamstress on standby for the morning, and pack your own small kit: needle and ivory thread, safety pins, spare hooks, fashion tape and a stain pen.
Once your gown is chosen, Wedded Concierge looks after it at the destination. We arrange a local dresser or steaming service near your venue for the morning of the wedding, so your gown is steamed close to the ceremony by someone used to couture.
Tell us your venue, your ceremony time and the fabric of each look, and we will book the steaming around your day. For the legal side of an Italian wedding, our guide to getting married in Italy sets out the paperwork.
Choose the gown for the place, then plan how it gets there. Tell us where and when you are marrying, and we will work back from your flight. To compare designers and bridal boutiques first, start in the Wedded Marketplace.
