Day 2 · Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle
Pass the King Mangrai monument on the way to the Hilltribe Museum, then visit Yao and Akha villages in the Mae Chan hills. Stop at the border market town of Mae Sai before the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. After lunch, climb 350 steps to Wat Phra That Chom Kitti at Chiang Saen and return to Chiang Rai.

Day 3 · Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai
Stop at Wat Rong Khun, the mirrored all-white temple on the edge of Chiang Rai, then drive to Chiang Mai and ride the cable car up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Cruise the River Ping, eat khao soi at a farm while dancers perform, and walk through the flower and produce market.

Day 4 · Chiang Mai
A morning at an elephant sanctuary focused on care and observation rather than riding. After lunch, explore the walled old city: Wat Suan Dok and its 48 metre chedi, the large complex of Wat Phra Sing, and 14th-century Wat Chedi Luang at the centre.
Day 5 · Chiang Mai
A last breakfast before you check out and go on with your own plans.
