Negombo
Day 1 · Negombo
You are met at Colombo airport and driven the short way to Negombo for your first night by the sea.
Day 2 · Negombo
Breakfast at the hotel, then the day is yours to rest after the flight or explore Negombo at your own pace. Dinner is at the hotel.
Pinnawala and Kandy
Day 3 · Pinnawala and Kandy
Head inland to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, which cares for around 60 orphaned and injured elephants, and watch the herd go down to the river to bathe. Continue into the hills to Kandy for dinner.
Kandy
Day 4 · Kandy
Drive around Kandy Lake, built by the last Sinhalese king, and visit the Temple of the Tooth. In the afternoon, walk the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, with their lawns, fernery, giant Javan fig and orchid house.
Sigiriya and Kaudulla
Day 5 · Sigiriya and Kaudulla
A long day north to climb Sigiriya, the fifth-century Lion Rock, past its water gardens and the painted heavenly maidens. In the afternoon, a game drive in Kaudulla National Park, where elephant herds gather around an ancient reservoir and pelicans, storks and fish eagles feed at the water. Return to Kandy.
Nuwara Eliya
Day 6 · Nuwara Eliya
Climb into the tea country to Nuwara Eliya, a cool hill resort below Pidurutalagala, the island's highest mountain, for a tour of the town by car.
Yala
Day 7 · Yala
Drive down to Yala for an afternoon jeep safari through grassland, scrub and lagoons, home to elephants, sloth bears, deer and one of the highest densities of leopards anywhere. Check in to your tented camp for dinner.
Galle and Ahungalla
Day 8 · Galle and Ahungalla
Follow the south coast to Galle for a tour of the old fort, its ramparts, bastions and lighthouse. Continue to Ahungalla for a last night by the sea and dinner at the hotel.
Colombo
Day 9 · Colombo
After breakfast your driver takes you to the airport for your flight.
