Kandy
Day 1 · Kandy
You are met at Colombo airport and driven up into the hills to Kandy. Dinner is at your hotel.
Day 2 · Kandy
Walk the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, with its lawns, orchid house and giant Javan fig. Back in Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the lakeside town, its market and a gem museum, and end the day with traditional drumming and dance.
Nuwara Eliya
Day 3 · Nuwara Eliya
Stop at a tea factory to see Ceylon tea made and taste a fresh cup. Climb on to Nuwara Eliya, a cool hill town of colonial bungalows, hedgerows and an old golf course, through valleys of waterfalls and tea pickers.
Yala and Tissamaharama
Day 4 · Yala and Tissamaharama
Come down from the hills to the south and head into Yala National Park by jeep. Its grasslands and lagoons are home to elephants, sloth bears, deer, jackals, a wealth of birds and a dense population of leopards.
Galle and the south-west coast
Day 5 · Galle and the south-west coast
Drive west to Galle and walk the streets inside the Dutch fort: the old gate, the Zwart Bastion, the lighthouse and houses with colonial verandas. Continue to your beach hotel at Hikkaduwa, Bentota or Ahungalla for dinner.
Colombo
Day 6 · Colombo
Drive up to Colombo for a tour of the capital: the harbour district of Pettah, Cinnamon Gardens, Galle Face Green, Viharamahadevi Park and Gangaramaya Temple. Dinner is at your hotel.
Day 7 · Colombo
Breakfast, then a transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
