Dambulla
Day 2 · Dambulla
Drive north to Dambulla and settle into your hotel. In the evening you can visit the cave temple, five caverns of painted walls and ceilings sheltering many Buddha statues beside the golden temple.
Kandy
Day 3 · Kandy
Head south into the hills, with the chance to stop at a spice garden in Matale for herbal tea and a look at how spices are grown. In Kandy, the last royal capital, there is time for the lake, the market and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Unawatuna
Day 4 · Unawatuna
A longer drive takes you to the south-west coast. On the way you can walk the ramparts and grid of streets inside Galle's Dutch fort, with its old gate and lighthouse, before a night at Unawatuna.
Colombo
Day 5 · Colombo
A free morning by the sea before the drive back to Colombo. In the afternoon you might shop around Independence Square and the Dutch Hospital, or visit Gangaramaya temple.
Day 6 · Colombo
Breakfast at the hotel and a transfer to the airport for your flight.
