  2. Berg-en-Dal
  3. Skukuza
  4. Satara
  5. Letaba
  6. Hoedspruit
  1. Berg-en-Dal

    Day 1 · Berg-en-Dal

Collect the car and drive into southern Kruger

At Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport you collect your rental car and drive to your first camp in the south of the park. The rest of the day is free. Kruger was founded in 1898 and covers close to two million hectares, home to the Big Five along with giraffe, zebra and a long list of birds.

    Travel
    80 km, about 1 hour
  2. Day 2 · Berg-en-Dal

The granite hills of the south

A full day to explore around Berg-en-Dal, in the foothills of the Malelane Mountains near the Crocodile River. The rocky bushveld here is good country for white rhino, elephant, buffalo, leopard, kudu and impala, and the thick vegetation around camp brings robins and turacos close.

  3. Skukuza

    Day 3 · Skukuza

    North to Skukuza

Drive slowly north to Skukuza, the largest and oldest camp in the park, stopping at waterholes and lookouts along the way where elephant, giraffe and antelope are often seen. The camp sits on the banks of the Sabie River.

    Along the Sabie River

A free day around Skukuza, where game is dense and lion, leopard and big elephant herds are all likely. Drive the river roads, stop at a picnic site, follow short loops off the main road or stay in camp and watch the riverbank.

    Breakfast
  5. Satara

    Day 5 · Satara

    Across the plains to Satara

Head north through open savannah and acacia plains that draw zebra, wildebeest and buffalo in large numbers. Satara is known as big cat country, with good chances of lion, cheetah and leopard nearby.

  6. Day 6 · Satara

    Big cat country

A full day on the grasslands around Satara, among the best ground in the park for lions. The S100 and H7 roads are the ones to know, and the waterholes gather big herds. Evenings in camp come with francolins calling and, often, lions roaring in the distance.

  7. Letaba

    Day 7 · Letaba

    North to Letaba

Continue north into mopane woodland and wide river valleys, where buffalo, waterbuck and elephant are seen often. Letaba is a quiet camp with shaded grounds above the river, and your base for the last two nights.
