A proposal planner costs anywhere from about $700 for a styled setup to $8,000 and up for a fully custom proposal. Full planning packages from two US planners start at $1,500 and $3,000, and some run past $10,000.
Think of a marriage proposal planner as your producer. The Yes Girls, a US proposal planning company, describes the job as concept creation, location scouting, permits, design, vendor coordination, setup and running everything on the day.
Keeping the secret is part of it too, and the same company works with the friends who bring your partner to the spot, so nothing slips until you're there.
These prices come from planners' own published packages, read in November 2026, all in US dollars:
Option | Typical price | What it usually covers |
DIY with friends | $200 to $600 | Materials only: flowers, signage, food and drink |
Styled setup | About $700 to $1,500 | Decor setup at a chosen spot, with an on-site helper in some packages |
Planned package | $1,500 to $7,000, some $10,000 and up | Planning, vendor booking, setup and, in the higher tiers, photography |
Custom proposal | From $8,000 | An original concept, the location and larger-scale decor |
Luxury production | $20,000 to $150,000 and up | A fully immersive, large-scale production |
At the budget end, Hidden Date in Los Angeles sells setup packages at $699, $949 and $1,499, none of which include a photographer. My Planner Friend, which works across most of the US, starts at $995 for a styled setup with planning guidance and an on-site helper.
For full planning, My Planner Friend's traditional packages start at $1,500, average $6,000 before day-of expenses, and sometimes reach $10,000 or more. The Yes Girls lists pre-set packages at $3,000 to $7,000, custom designs from $8,000, and fully immersive luxury proposals from $20,000 to more than $150,000.
Remember the planner's fee isn't the whole bill. You'll still need the ring, a photographer if one isn't included, any venue or permit fees, and dinner or a stay afterwards if you're making a night of it.
A full pre-set package from The Yes Girls covers planning and coordination, professional photography, phone video from a content creator, florals and decor, and the setup and breakdown on the day.
Go custom and you add an original design concept, location or destination planning, bigger floral installations and touches such as live musicians or candlelit pathways. At the other end, a basic package is much lighter: My Planner Friend describes pre-set ideas, venue suggestions and links to buy decor like signs and rose petals yourself.
My Planner Friend points to four things that move the cost:
Timing counts too. Hidden Date adds a $100 urgency fee for a booking made the day before and $150 for a same-day booking, and extra time is $70 for 30 minutes.
It's worth it when the logistics are hard to pull off in secret. The Yes Girls gives the example of a park that's booked for a child's birthday party on the day you propose. A planner would have checked with the parks department ahead of time, and if something still went wrong, found a Plan B and moved every vendor to it.
The case is strongest if you're proposing somewhere you don't live, need a permit or a private space, or want photography, florals and a setup timed to the minute. If you're proposing at home or somewhere you know well, with a friend or two to help, a DIY proposal for a few hundred dollars can mean just as much. This step-by-step guide to proposing walks you through doing it yourself, and these proposal ideas have settings for every budget.
Start local. Some planners work in just one city, like Hidden Date in Los Angeles, so search for one near the place you'll propose. Then ask each one the same three questions:

A proposal on holiday adds a layer a local planner can't always handle: a venue in another country, vendors who speak another language, and travel booked without giving anything away. Our round-up of private proposal spots abroad has 12 settings and how to make each one as private as possible.
Wedded Concierge, our planning service, plans proposals abroad while your partner thinks it's just a holiday, sourcing the venue and the vendors around it. The first call is free.
