Start with the couple’s registry if they have one. A registry gift is something they chose, and most bridal shower registries are filled with everyday pieces between $25 and $100. If there is no registry, or you want something more personal, pick from the eight types of gift below.
Generally, the closer you are to the bride, the more you spend. Around the Wedded Wonderland team, $50 is a good place to start for a colleague or distant friend, while a sister or a member of the bridal party might spend more than $100. If you are unsure, ask other guests what they are spending, and spend what you can afford.
Under $50: a cookbook, a silk pillowcase, a set of face masks, or an initial pendant. $50 to $100: a registry classic like a casserole dish or serving set, a robe, or a set of champagne coupes. Over $100: a stand mixer from the registry, a spa day, or an experience for two.
Kitchen and dining pieces are the backbone of most registries: a stand mixer, a kettle, a casserole dish, or a set of serving bowls. If the couple has registered, buy from the list so nothing is doubled up.
An initial pendant, a ring dish for her bedside, or a keepsake box for wedding cards all suit a shower gift budget.
A matching pyjama set, a robe for the wedding morning, or a silk pillowcase is something she can use from the shower to the honeymoon.
A spa voucher, a set of face masks or a fragrance gives her time for herself in the busiest months of planning.
Give a cookbook for the couple’s first kitchen together, or, for something more personal, fill a recipe book with family favourites and ask other guests to add theirs.
A set of champagne coupes or flutes gives the couple glasses for toasts at home after the wedding.
A cooking class, a wine tasting or a dinner out gives the couple a break from planning. If they are travelling after the wedding, a contribution to the honeymoon works the same way.
If you are unsure what she needs, give a gift card or cash in a card, and write a note with it so the gift still feels personal.
If the shower is tomorrow, a gift card in a handwritten card, a bottle of champagne with two glasses, or a spa voucher can all be bought the same day. Check the registry first: many registries deliver within a day or two.
If you are building the registry yourself, work through your home one room at a time. Our Gift Concierge can also curate it for you.
If the shower is part of a bigger celebration, like a destination wedding weekend, Wedded Concierge can plan it with you. If you are shopping for the wedding itself in Melbourne, Wedded World Melbourne, The Fashion, Travel & Wellness Edition, runs on 7 and 8 November.
