Day 2 · Cape Town
A half-day city tour takes in the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest surviving building in South Africa, the City Hall, the Company's Garden, the colourful Bo-Kaap and the view from Signal Hill. In the afternoon a two-hour hydrofoil trip on Table Bay looks for dolphins, seals, penguins and, in season, whales.

Cape Peninsula
Day 3 · Cape Peninsula
A full day around the peninsula, starting at the fishing harbour of Hout Bay and following the Atlantic coast to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. The way back runs through Simon's Town, Kalk Bay and the green suburb of Constantia.
Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek
Day 4 · Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek
A day in the wine triangle of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek, with oak-lined streets, Cape Dutch farmhouses and the vineyards first planted by French Huguenots. Estates along the way pour their wines with local cheeses.

Hermanus
Day 5 · Hermanus
Your escorting guide joins you for the rest of the journey and drives you to Hermanus on Walker Bay. Southern right whales come here to calve from July to November, and walking trails lead into the fynbos above the town.
Cape Agulhas and Oudtshoorn
Day 6 · Cape Agulhas and Oudtshoorn
Stop at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean, and climb its red and white lighthouse. Then continue inland to Oudtshoorn for the night.
Oudtshoorn and Knysna
Day 7 · Oudtshoorn and Knysna
Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world, and a farm visit shows how the birds are raised. Next come the Cango Caves, a long chain of limestone halls, before an afternoon drive down to Knysna.

Knysna and Plettenberg Bay
Day 8 · Knysna and Plettenberg Bay
See the Knysna lagoon and the sandstone cliffs of the Heads, then the long beaches of Plettenberg Bay. Wander the walkways of the Birds of Eden free-flight sanctuary and join a guided walk at Monkeyland, before driving on to Storms River for the night.

Port Elizabeth
Day 9 · Port Elizabeth
Drive on to Gqeberha, long known as Port Elizabeth, stopping at the Bayworld museum and oceanarium. Its halls range from dinosaurs to a 15 metre southern right whale skeleton and model sailing ships, with a reptile park and a daily seal and penguin show outside.
Kariega Game Reserve
Day 10 · Kariega Game Reserve
A short drive brings you to Kariega, a 10,000 hectare private reserve set over two rivers, with grassland, riverine forest and bushveld. After lunch an English-speaking ranger takes you out on your first game drive, and at dusk hippos may come out of the river to graze.

Day 11 · Kariega Game Reserve
An early wake-up for a three-hour drive in an open vehicle, with coffee in the bush before breakfast at the lodge. The middle of the day is for the pool, then out again in the afternoon.
