Get closer to the wild

A safari is built around early starts, expert eyes and long evenings under big skies.

  • Guides who read the land

Experienced guides and trackers find the wildlife and explain the behaviour you are watching.

  • The great migration

Follow the wildebeest across the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, timed to the season's movements.

  • Camps in wild places

Stay in tented camps and lodges inside or beside the reserves, so the wildlife is close.

  • Pair it with a beach

Finish with a few days on Zanzibar or the Kenyan coast after the early starts.

Choose your safari country

Start where safaris work best.

  • Kenya

The Maasai Mara hosts the migration from about July to October, with big cats all year.

  • Tanzania

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater hold some of Africa's richest wildlife.

  • South Africa

Private reserves near Kruger offer close sightings and pair well with Cape Town.

  • Uganda

Bwindi's forests are home to mountain gorillas, with chimpanzees nearby.

  • Namibia

Etosha's waterholes draw elephants and rhino against wide desert scenery.

Questions travellers ask

When is the best time for a safari in East Africa?+
The long dry season from about June to October is the classic time, when animals gather near water. January and February are also dry in Kenya and Tanzania, and bring the calving season in the southern Serengeti.
Should we choose Kenya or Tanzania for a first safari?+
Both are excellent. Kenya's Maasai Mara is compact and easy to combine with the coast, while Tanzania pairs the Serengeti with the Ngorongoro Crater, and many trips include both.
Is a safari suitable for a honeymoon?+
Yes. Safari camps suit a honeymoon, with private decks, dinners under the stars and a beach stay to finish. Tell your travel expert about the occasion and the camps are chosen with it in mind.
Can children go on safari?+
Yes, although some camps set minimum ages for game drives or walks. Your travel expert chooses family-friendly camps and can arrange a private vehicle.
How many days do we need on safari?+
Four to six nights across two camps is a good start, giving a range of scenery and wildlife. Add a few nights on the beach or in Cape Town to round out the trip.
Do we need vaccinations for an African safari?+
Recommendations vary by country, so speak with your doctor or a travel clinic well before you leave. Check your own government's travel advice for current entry rules too, as some countries ask for proof of yellow fever vaccination.
