Valletta
Day 2 · Valletta
A guided walk through the fortified capital built by the Knights of St John from 1566. Take in the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, see the Caravaggios and inlaid marble floor of St John's Co-Cathedral, pass the Grandmaster's Palace, then watch an audiovisual show on Malta's long history.
Gozo
Day 3 · Gozo
A twenty-minute ferry brings you to Mgarr harbour on the quieter sister island. Your guide leads you around the Ggantija temples, older than the pyramids of Egypt, the citadel in Victoria and the bays at Xlendi and Dwejra, with lunch before the ferry back.

Mdina
Day 4 · Mdina
A half-day in Mdina, the old walled capital, along narrow streets of Siculo-Norman and baroque palaces to bastions with views across the island. Leave by the Greek's Gate for the cliffs at Dingli and the San Anton gardens beside the President's palace.

Vittoriosa
Day 5 · Vittoriosa
Cross the Grand Harbour to Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea, where the Knights first settled in 1530. Walk Vittoriosa's lanes past the first auberges, ride a traditional dghajsa around the creeks, and look over the harbour and Fort St Angelo from the garden at Senglea.

Marsaxlokk
Day 6 · Marsaxlokk
Visit the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, its harbour full of painted luzzu boats and its seafront market. Continue to the Blue Grotto and its caves, looking out to the islet of Filfla, then walk the winding lanes of a country village with your guide.
