Dos & Don’ts of Picking a Bridal Party

When planning a wedding, picking your bridal party can be the most daunting task. The bridal party should be your biggest supporters, and there to help and guide you through one of the most important days of your life. So, how will you pick the right people? We are here to help with our top dos and don’ts of picking a bridal party.

Do take your time

Try to avoid picking your bridal party directly after your engagement. Once you’ve asked someone to be part of your bridal party it can be extremely awkward to back out of it. Take your time considering all your options before you decide who to pick.

Don’t feel pressured to choose all your siblings

It’s OK to pick one or two sisters or brothers to be part of you bridal party. Or none at all. And don’t feel pressured to have your groom’s siblings included either. Consider your wedding and who you think would be best.

Do consider the size of your wedding

If you are planning a small wedding, having a big bridal party might seem awkward. Consider balancing the number of your bridal party with the number of guests. The general rule of thumb is one bridesmaid to 50 guests, but this should only be used as a guideline. Also consider the size of your venue.

Don’t feel the need to balance the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen

With so many beautifully creative ways to include an uneven number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, don’t stress over having to balance them perfectly.

Do what is best for you

Your wedding is yours, do what works for you. Don’t get worked up by everyone’s opinions about whom you should or shouldn’t include. If you want your brother to be a bridesman, or an 18-person bridal party, or even have three bridesmaids and no groomsmen, go for it. Do what makes you happy!

Don’t be offended when people decline

Unfortunately, not everyone has the time nor the means to be part of your bridal party, and often the responsibility of being a bridesmaid or groomsmen may clash with their own responsibilities. So, try not to get upset or be offended if someone declines your proposal. Keep things in perspective and imagine yourself in their shoes.

Do have fun!

This is your big day and having fun with your chosen party people is all that matters. Enjoy!
