Why Kate Middleton Was In Tears Weeks Before Her Wedding Day

Kate Middleton‘s and Prince William‘s wedding day was iconic to say the least. Her gorgeous lace wedding gown was designed by Sarah Burton, and has been renowned as one of the most gorgeous royal wedding dresses ever. So, why was the Duchess in tears weeks before her big day?

It’s been reported that Kate, was left inconsolable after the designer of her wedding gown was leaked to The Sunday Times in March of 2011, one month before the wedding. The newspaper had stated that Kate fell in love Sarah’s gowns after the McQueen designer created Sara Parker Bowles’ wedding dress in 2005.

Speaking on Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Royal Dressmakers, royal author and commentator Katie Nicholl, said the news caused chaos at the palace. “Behind the scenes I think that caused tears at the Palace because Kate had done everything she could to keep the wedding dress a secret,” Katie said.

Sarah Burton kept quiet on everything to do with her design and her relationship with Kate until three years after the wedding. In an interview that followed with The New York Times Style Magazine, Sarah said she will always cherish the special moment. “I loved making the dress, I loved adapting my ideas to suit the person and the occasion, and we put our hearts into it,” she said.

She also said that while she understands we are a ‘culture obsessed with fame’, she respects her clients’ privacy. “I respect the intimate nature of that lovely project and I respect the friendships that were forged during it… an instinctive, intelligent, imaginative young woman’s wish for a beautiful wedding dress — or any kind of dress — is the most natural thing in the world. I was honored to pick up the challenge and always will be.”
