Emma Roberts Brought Vintage Romance Back With Her Monique Lhuillier Wedding Dress

Emma Roberts Brought Vintage Romance Back With Her Monique Lhuillier Wedding Dress

Emma Roberts walked down the aisle in a custom Monique Lhuillier wedding dress featuring a one-of-a-kind "antique rose" hue, proving that vintage-inspired bridal fashion is making a romantic comeback.

For years, crisp white has been the default for wedding gowns. It's timeless, classic, and always beautiful. But lately, brides have been embracing softer shades that feel more personal than traditional, trading stark white for warm ivories, champagne hues, and vintage-inspired tones that tell a story.

Emma Roberts just gave that movement its most enchanting celebrity moment.

When the actress married fellow actor Cody John in an intimate ceremony at a private residence in Sun Valley, Idaho, she wore a custom Monique Lhuillier creation that looked as though it had stepped straight out of another era. Rather than choosing a conventional white gown, Roberts worked closely with the Filipino designer to create a bespoke shade called "vintagee rose," a delicate tea-stained hue that perfectly captured her vision of old-world romance.

The result felt nostalgic, whimsical, and refreshingly different from the bridal trends we've grown used to seeing.

Inspired by Vintage Treasures and Old-World Charm

According to reports, Roberts approached the design process with a clear feeling rather than a specific silhouette in mind. She wanted her wedding look to feel deeply inspired by vintage finds, antique books, and collected keepsakes that she has long loved.

One detail mattered more than anything else: the color.

Instead of bright white, Roberts imagined something softer and lived-in. She even joked that she wanted to resemble an "antique ghost doll," an image that became the creative starting point for the gown.

To bring that vision to life, Monique Lhuillier developed a completely custom fabric color exclusively for the bride. The designer named it "vintage rose," a subtle nod to Roberts' middle name while perfectly reflecting the gown's romantic character.

Monique Lhuillier Created a Dress That Changed Throughout the Day

The gown itself was every bit as thoughtful as its custom color.

Crafted from flowing silk chiffon, the design featured a structured corseted bodice beneath softly draped layers of fabric that created movement with every step. A sweetheart-inspired silhouette was complemented by an asymmetrical lace shawl, intricate French lace detailing, and a dramatic train that added just the right amount of theatrical elegance.

One of its cleverest features was its versatility.

As shared by Lhuillier during Roberts' final fitting with Vogue, the gown could be transformed into multiple looks throughout the celebration simply by removing different elements. Once the lace shawl came off, it revealed a completely different neckline, allowing the dress to evolve naturally from ceremony to reception.

Rather than changing into an entirely new outfit, Roberts was able to enjoy several distinct bridal looks through one beautifully engineered design.

Nearly 1,000 Hours Went Into One Dress

Exceptional bridal couture is rarely rushed, and Roberts' gown was no exception.

According to Monique Lhuillier, the dress took approximately nine months to complete and required close to 1,000 hours of craftsmanship.

Around 25 yards of silk chiffon were specially dyed in the custom antique rose shade before being carefully draped over the corseted foundation. Every layer was designed to create softness while maintaining the structure needed for the gown's dramatic silhouette.

The finished piece felt less like a trend and more like a future heirloom.

An Intimate Idaho Wedding That Felt True to Them

Emma Roberts and Cody John chose to celebrate their marriage away from the spotlight, exchanging vows at a private residence in Sun Valley, Idaho, surrounded by close family and friends after four years together.

The ceremony embraced an intimate atmosphere over grand spectacle, with loved ones including Emma's aunt, Julia Roberts, in attendance. One of the sweetest moments came when Emma walked down the aisle hand in hand with her young son, Rhodes, adding an extra layer of meaning to the day.

The relaxed setting perfectly matched the couple's approach to the celebration. Rather than chasing extravagance, they created a wedding that felt warm, personal, and deeply reflective of who they are. Against Idaho's scenic landscape, every thoughtful detail, especially Emma's one-of-a-kind Monique Lhuillier gown, was given the space to shine.

A Vintage After-Party Twist

Roberts didn't stop at one unforgettable fashion moment.

For the after-party, she chose an archival Monique Lhuillier design originally released in the designer's Fall 2004 collection. The two-piece ensemble paired a black Chantilly lace corset with a tea-length silk organza skirt, creating a look that blurred the line between vintage and contemporary.

Instead of following the expected bridal wardrobe formula, Roberts embraced something playful and unexpected.

It's another reminder that personal style doesn't have to end after the ceremony.

Why Vintage Romance Feels Fresh Again

Bridal fashion often swings between extremes, but Roberts' wedding wardrobe landed somewhere beautifully in the middle.

Rather than chasing maximalism or minimalism, she focused on mood.

The tea-stained fabric, delicate lace, archival references, and old-world styling created a look that felt romantic without becoming costume-like. It reflected a growing appreciation for bridal fashion that carries history, personality, and craftsmanship instead of simply following what's currently trending.

If the past few seasons have been dominated by clean lines and modern silhouettes, Emma Roberts may have just reminded us that vintage romance is quietly making its return.
