Having just announced their engagement, everybody’s favourite royal Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle have left us buzzing with excitement.

And while we sat around reeling from the news and speculating over every little detail, they decided to drop another bombshell and announced that the wedding would be held in May 2018, only six months after their engagement.
Not that we’re complaining. The sooner the better, we say!
Appearing on Kensington Palace’s official Twitter account, the announcement also named St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle as the wedding venue, along with confirming that the Royal Family would pay for the wedding.

While you might put it down to excitement, the reason behind their imminent wedding is much more personal.
According to royal expert Kate Nicholl, it was Harry’s close relationship with his grandfather, Prince Philip, that influenced the decision.
“[Harry] didn’t want to have such a big royal wedding at Westminster Abbey — it doesn’t need to be as big as William’s wedding. Harry really wanted to have something a little bit more intimate. The second reason is that he wanted something close to home for the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen,” Nicholl told ET.
“One of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly — this is really whirlwind by royal standards — is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding.”

“He’s incredibly close to his grandfather and, being 96, Harry thought it was it was a great thing to [have] the wedding sooner rather than later, so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”
We love seeing this more human side of the Royals. We may also have fallen more in love with Prince Harry.
Let the Countdown to May 2018 begin!
