If there’s one thing we’ve learnt here at Wedded Wonderland when it comes to weddings, it’s that they just keep getting bigger and better. And who better to prove our point than the stars of Hollywood and their lavish star-studded nuptials.
More often than not, we look to the celebs for inspiration on weddings; whether it be the styling, beauty trends or the gowns. Here, we take a look back at the most memorable wedding dresses of 2014. And whether we’d like to admit it or not, these gowns were splashed across magazines and newspaper worldwide for a reason. The reason being they were fabulous in every possible way.
Amal Alamuddin
Coming in at number one, is the woman who stole the heart of the world’s most eligible bachelor. Mrs George Clooney, Amal Alamuddin, in Oscar De la Renta. The off the shoulder lace gown designed especially for Amal, made headlines around the globe for all the right reasons. Elegant, classic and above all feminine, the British born Lebanese human rights lawyer chose De la Renta as she was aware he was unwell and wanted to give him his last big hoorah. Amal was rumoured to have originally considered choosing British home grown talent, Alexander McQueen.
Kim Kardashian
Coming in at number two is the girl we love to hate. Famous for nothing yet everything all at once, Kim Kardashian married her baby daddy rapper, Kanye West, in a secret ceremony in Florence, Italy. Her official wedding picture was the most popular image of 2014 with the world hanging on the edge of their seats to see what the curvaceous star’s second famous wedding dress would look like. Kardashian wore a custom-made haute couture creation by the couple’s close friend, Givenchy Creative Director Riccardo Tisci. The gown, which featured long sleeves, strategically placed sheer panels and a high neck received mixed reviews with some falling head over heels in love and others not so much.
Angelina Jolie
The world’s most controversial couple Brangelina tied the knot at their private estate, Château Miraval, in France. Angelina chose her go-to label, Versace, the label behind most of her glamorous red carpet looks, to design her bridal gown. The white silk, Atelier Versace satin gown featured a flowing, long skirt gathered at the bust with an elongated train, creating a romantic vibe. The train was filled with embroidered drawings by her children that were also reproduced on the veil. The creation which was crafted by Donatella herself went viral and was splashed across magazine covers all around the world.
Lauren Conrad
Reality TV star, Lauren Conrad married musician William Tell in the ultimate boho rustic chic ceremony in California. The bride wore two beautiful gowns. The first, a custom made Badgley Mischka couture gown, which featured a remarkable 10 foot train and crystal, pearl and glass embellishments. For the evening celebrations, she slipped into a fitted strapless mermaid silhouette gown by bridal designer Monique Lhuiillier. The fishtail gown fit Conrad like a glove and featured a gorgeous tulle bow at the back. Her gowns were everything we expected from The Hills star and more.
Ashley Tisdale
High School Musical star, Ashley Tisalde was every bit the Princess Boho bride when she married lead singer of band Annie Automatic, Christopher French. The pint sized star wore a Monique Lhuillier gown with capped sleeves and a cinched waist. The gown featured a detachable tulle overskirt which Tisdale later removed, to reveal a more sleek and sexy gown to party the night away. Her baby’s breath floral crown, sitting atop her famously tousled blonde locks was the perfect touch to complete her Boho look.
Ashlee Simpson
Pop star Ashlee Simpson joined music royalty when she married the son of Diana Ross, Evan Ross. The couple celebrated their wedding at the home of Evan’s mother in Greenwich, Connecticut with close family and friends. The bride wore a Houghton two piece gown, which featured a sheer midriff lace top with a Madonna bralet worn underneath. The skirt was ivory corded lace with a high/low hemline and train. The gown featured custom hand-bead pearl details throughout the lace. Her veil, which was also a Houghton piece, boasted hand-sewn scalloped lace edges and matched perfectly with her stunning Neil Lane headpiece. We definitely love this look a lot more than her the look she rocked on her first wedding to Pete Wentz.
Jessica Simpson
It was a busy year for the Simpson family with older sister Jessica also tying the knot for the second time around. Jessica married her football star husband Eric Johnson in a lavish ceremony on a ranch in Santa Barbara, California. Her gorgeous multi-tulle layer princess gown by bridal designer Carolina Herrera, featured gorgeous gold embroidery, creating a regal feel. The champagne colour gown matched perfectly with her polished blonde half up half down hair do and dainty Neil Lane pearl earrings. We think this gown is definitely a step up from the gown she wore to marry pop singer, Nick Lachey.
Kaley Cuoco
The Big Bang Theory’s, Kaley Cuoco married tennis star, Ryan Sweeting, in a New Year’s Eve wedding fit for a princess. Kaley wore a petal- pink Vera Wang strapless ball gown with embroidered details trailing down the back. The wedding theme was fire and ice and included pink accents to match the non-traditional coloured gown. The glamorous and custom-made dress featured a sweetheart neckline, hand-gathering detailed bodice and hand appliqué Chantilly lace accents. The veil, also by Wang, was nude tulle with petal-pink floating hand appliqué Chantilly lace. We love when a bride isn’t afraid to take risks and mix things up a little.
Poppy Delvingne
British model, stylish sister of Cara Delvingne, and Chanel brand ambassador, Poppy Delvigne married long-term boyfriend James Cook in a Chanel Couture gown. The gown featured intricate beading, a floral design, a sheer skirt, and gorgeous train. The bride’s gown matched perfectly with the English garden party theme, in which sister Cara also wore a white Chanel gown. But the glamour didn’t stop there. The model and husband celebrated a second wedding party in Marrakech, Morocco with a laid back boho theme. The bride’s Emilio Pucci dress gained more publicity than her UK wedding with its spectacular array of soft pastel colours, floral embroidery and embellishments. This was another gown which went viral within minutes of being posted on social media.
Olivia Palermo
If there’s one bride who broke all the rules this year, it was fashonista Olivia Palermo. Palermo married her model fiancé Johannes Huebl in a quiet park in Belford, New York City in front of their close family and friends. The bride wore a Carolina Hererra two piece, cream cashmere jumper, with scattered ostrich feathers and white shorts teamed with a full tulle skirt overlay. And who could forget her Manolo Blahnik blue satin pumps? Otherwise known as Carrie’s wedding shoes, from Sex & The City. Palermo also kept her hair and makeup simple, placing her hair in a ponytail with au natural makeup. There is no doubt in our minds; Palermo won our hearts, yet again.
