gets. Puja Singh and Mihir Jani turned Fort Myers into their personal Bollywood blockbuster and left us all plotting our own cultural destination weddings. Ready for a little wedding envy? Let’s dive in.
They first locked eyes on 2 December 2016, Mihir’s birthday and their medical-school interview day. No sparks then, just nerves and nametags. Fast-forward through countless coffee runs, study marathons and teasing worthy of a ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ remix, and suddenly they’re official. On 9 June 2018, amid Chicago’s twinkling skyline, Mihir popped the girlfriend question and Puja blushingly said yes. Spoiler alert, no arranged marriage here.
Residency got real – her in emergency medicine, him in pain management; So Mihir upped the ante with a Central Park scavenger hunt. Cue romantic note, escorted stroll, and a gazebo dripping in roses and candles. Puja walked the aisle, Mihir dropped to one knee, and the paparazzi of their hearts exploded. Private photoshoot? Check. Intimate family dinner? Double check. Engagement party with close friends? Party hats all around.
Destination wedding rule one: choose somewhere that makes your heart skip a beat. Marriott Sanibel Harbour, Fort Myers served up Gulf-Coast glamour, space for every tradition and sun-soaked backdrops Instagram dreams are made of. Eventrics planned every detail from rose-water welcome spritzes in the lobby to custom timelines in your room key and we’re officially jealous of their stationery game.
Imagine Puja’s delicate hands getting inked by Henna Allure, waves crashing behind her and a pastel sunset doing all the heavy lifting. Guests sipped mango lassis, nibbled on pani puri and marvelled at shell jewellery honouring Puja’s late father. It was serene, it was festive and yes, it was totally #MehndiGoals.
Next up, a catamaran cruise that turned into a playful “girls’ team vs boys’ team” showdown. Turban-topped crew, cheeky stickers and a sparkler exit led to surprise fireworks because why not? Bollywood beats met chart-topping pop and even the uncoordinated found their groove under the stars.
Haldi ceremonies usually mean turmeric smears and family laughter. Puja and Mihir levelled up with a pink-themed pool party – bubble tea station, donut bar and a bridal-party skit that had everyone in stitches. The grand finale? The happy couple cannon-balled into the pool in matching mango outfits. If that doesn’t scream “Let’s celebrate,” what does?
Lights, camera, Sangeet. This wasn’t your auntie’s karaoke night. Think life-sized movie posters of the couple, a Garba hour that turned into non-stop bhangra and a Jaggo procession so epic it could rival a film premiere. Puja’s family stole the show with a love-story skit that had the crowd howling with laughter and crying happy tears.
Time for the main event, a mandap dripping in fresh florals, and a golf-cart baraat entrance that redefined “grand arrival.” A Sikh prayer honoured both faiths, kaleerey charms carried photos of lost loved ones and a petal bar let guests shower the couple in personalised flower cones. Heartstrings: fully tugged.
Guests found their seats via handwritten “Our Favourite People” letters and were greeted by a gallery wall of Indian-shoot snaps. Same-day photo prints hot off the press? Yes please. A telephone guestbook captured whispered wishes and Puja’s outfit changed from a sleek white dress with custom sneakers to a jaw-dropping lehenga kept jaws on the floor. Their first dance? A Bollywood-meets-pop mash-up ending in a mic-drop worthy flourish.
If you’re still planning a one-day, one-venue affair, you’re missing out on multi-day magic. Here’s why you should take notes from Puja and Mihir:
