Is Santorini safe after the 2025 earthquakes?+
The 2025 seismic swarm eased and the state of emergency ended on 3 March 2025. Greece still carries an earthquake risk, so check Smartraveller or your government's travel advice close to your date.
Do we need a symbolic ceremony instead?+
A symbolic ceremony suits couples who want fewer documents or a specific venue and time. You marry legally at home first, then celebrate on the island with no Greek paperwork.
Can we book a private estate in Santorini instead of a hotel terrace?+
Yes. Santorini Gem near Pyrgos began as a private villa and is now hired exclusively, with the ceremony and reception on its upper terrace and pool area facing the volcano for up to 160 guests. The Gem Villa on the estate has 5 bedrooms sleeping 8, so the couple and closest guests can get ready, celebrate and wake up there.
Are there adults-only wedding hotels in Santorini?+
Yes. Carpe Diem Santorini in Pyrgos, home of The Dunes wedding garden, is adults only and does not accept children under 13. It has just 10 suites, each with a private pool or jetted tub, so it suits the couple and a small inner circle. Guests travelling with young children can stay elsewhere on the island and join for the celebration.
Can we marry in a traditional Greek chapel on Santorini?+
Yes. Pyrgos Restaurant has Aghia Fotini Chapel on its own property, used for religious ceremonies, so the vows and the dinner share one address. After the ceremony, guests move into the garden or one of 5 halls, from the Panorama Hall with views across the island to the Small Private Hall for a small group.
How many guests can a Santorini wedding venue hold?+
Most venues suit up to about 150 guests. Santorini Gem takes up to 160 on its terrace and pool area, The Dunes up to 150, and Pyrgos Restaurant seats up to 150 in its outdoor area. The reception venue at Santo Wines holds up to 110. For a very small group, the Small Private Hall at Pyrgos Restaurant gives a private table.
What food and wine can guests expect at a Santorini wedding?+
Greek cooking and island wine lead the way. At Santo Wines, guests can take a glass of local Assyrtiko straight after the vows and taste Santorini PDO wines and Vinsanto. Pyrgos Restaurant brings close to four decades of Greek and Mediterranean cooking with local produce, and Rocabella's Axinos serves Cycladic cooking with an international touch.
