Fairbanks
Day 1 · Fairbanks
You settle in, then join a dog musher at home for a welcome dinner, learning about sled teams and meeting the puppies in training.
Day 2 · Fairbanks
You see the oil pipeline, walk with reindeer through spruce forest and pan for gold at a family operation. After lunch you learn about Alaska's Indigenous cultures at the Morris Thompson Center.
Denali National Park
Day 3 · Denali National Park
Breakfast is served on a glass-domed rail car as you ride to Denali. You hear from a local Alaskan and go on a guided hike before dinner at your hotel.
Day 4 · Denali National Park
You look for bears, moose and caribou in the park, then fly by helicopter over the tundra to land and walk on the Yanert Glacier, weather permitting.
Denali Highway and Valdez
Day 5 · Denali Highway and Valdez
You drive one of Alaska's least-travelled roads across glacial eskers, watching for wildlife, and stop at the Wrangell-St Elias visitor centre to learn about the Ahtna people. You reach your lodge in Valdez.
Valdez
Day 6 · Valdez
You see the end of the 800-mile pipeline, then kayak among blue ice on Valdez Glacier Lake. In the evening you tour a local brewery and dine on local food.
Day 7 · Valdez
You walk a trail beside the pipeline to a lake, then tour the town and its museum to learn about the Copper River Basin and Prince William Sound.
Prince William Sound and Girdwood
Day 8 · Prince William Sound and Girdwood
You cruise among glaciers and marine wildlife to Whittier and drive through a long one-way tunnel. After a wildlife centre that cares for injured moose, caribou and bears, you reach Girdwood for a farewell dinner high on Mount Alyeska.
Anchorage
Day 9 · Anchorage
After breakfast you transfer to Anchorage airport for your flight home.
