Day 1 · Hammamet
You are met at Tunis-Carthage airport and driven to your hotel in Hammamet. The rest of the day is yours to rest at the hotel or explore nearby, with dinner at the hotel.
Matmata
Day 2 · Matmata
Stop at the hilltop Berber village of Takrouna for the view, then visit the Roman amphitheatre at El Djem, the second largest after the one in Rome. After a Tunisian lunch, continue south to Matmata, arriving at about 6 pm at a hotel built in the style of the village's troglodyte homes.
Djerba
Day 3 · Djerba
Leave at about 8 am for Tataouine, the capital of the Berber south, where some 150 ksour, fortified villages of stone granaries, sit on ridges and hillsides that are best reached by 4x4. Learn how the Berbers withdrew to these high places to escape successive invaders, then after lunch in Tataouine drive on to Djerba for dinner at the hotel.
Day 4 · Djerba
Begin in Guellala, a Berber village whose name means potters and where pottery has been made for centuries. After lunch, visit the Jewish quarter of Erriadh and the Synagogue of El Ghriba, plain outside and richly tiled within, before returning to the hotel at about 6 pm.

Day 5 · Tunis
A long day north to Kairouan, where the Great Mosque was founded in 670. Walk the medina, taste fresh pastry and see its carpets, then visit the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi before driving on to Tunis for dinner at the hotel.
Day 6 · Tunis
From about 8 am, spend two hours with a guide in the UNESCO-listed medina of Tunis, home to some 700 palaces, mosques, madrasas and fountains. You are then taken to the airport.

Collect your car at Tunis airport and base yourselves for two nights at Gammarth, close to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the medina. Then drive south to Hammamet, inland to Kairouan, past El Djem to Sousse, and back up the coast for a last night at Gammarth.

From a first night in Hammamet, the group heads inland to Kairouan and on to the palm town of Tozeur. You cross the Chott el Djerid salt lake to Douz at the edge of the Sahara, visit the cave homes of Matmata, and spend two nights on Djerba before returning north by way of El Djem, Sousse, Sidi Bou Said and Carthage.
