Day 1 · Chiang Mai
You are met at Chiang Mai airport or in the city centre for an afternoon tour from 1.30 pm. See the tall Sri Lankan-style chedi of Wat Suan Dok, the large Wat Phra Sing complex and the restored ruins of Wat Chedi Luang, then Wat Chet Yot and the elephant sculptures of Wat Chiang Man.
Day 2 · Chiang Mai
Take the cable car or the 309-step naga staircase up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and its view over the city. Browse Warorot Market and the flower market, then spend the evening at a khan toke dinner, a northern Thai feast with dances from the old Lanna kingdom.
Chiang Rai
Day 3 · Chiang Rai
Spend the morning at an elephant sanctuary that focuses on care and observation rather than riding. After lunch, drive north via Doi Saket to Wat Rong Khun, the white temple set with pieces of mirror, and on to Chiang Rai.
Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai
Day 4 · Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai
Drive to Chiang Saen for the view over the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet on the Mekong, and take a 30-minute boat ride on the river. After lunch you are dropped at Chiang Rai airport at about 2 pm.
