Castello del Trebbio is a working wine and olive oil estate in the hills of Chianti Rufina, east of Florence. The castle predates the 12th century and was a Pazzi stronghold, where the 1478 plot against the Medici was hatched. By prior arrangement the owners open their private residence, so couples can hold a symbolic ceremony in the historic courtyard or the small private chapel.
Wedding guests stay on the farm in villas and apartments made from old farmhouses and barns. Villa Pergola sleeps 11 plus 2 and Villa Faltignano sleeps 14, each with a private pool, and both have barn dependances that add more beds. Further apartments in the Panicale farmhouse share a third pool.
Receptions are held at La Sosta del Gusto, the estate restaurant in a medieval building beside the castle, with barrel-vaulted rooms and an outdoor terrace looking over the vineyards. Menus are tailored to each wedding and lean on what the estate grows, including its wine, olive oil, saffron and spelt. The team can also arrange make-up and flowers, which keeps the planning in one place.
Between events, guests can tour the cellars and taste the Chianti Rufina, join a cooking class, walk the vineyards and olive groves, or drive into Florence for the day.
