The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort has hosted traditional Fijian beach ceremonies at sunset, where 2 warriors carry the bride along the sand to the waiting groom to the sound of lali drums and conch shells. Weddings here are on a small scale: with only 25 bures on the peninsula, the guest list naturally stays intimate.
Guests stay in 25 thatched Fijian bures across a 17-acre former coconut plantation, from Gardenview Bures to Oceanfront One and Two-Bedroom Bures, Point Reef Bures with spa tubs and a Premium Oceanfront Two-Bedroom Villa. Each has a king bed, day bed and private deck.
After the ceremony, the main open-air dining bure, with its soaring thatched roof over the pool and ocean, is the natural place to gather. For something more private, the resort arranges dinners on ocean terraces or at the end of the pier, and Naviavia Island, a short boat ride off the peninsula, can be booked from 2 hours to a full day for a sunset or a picnic with your closest people. The resort's current website has no wedding page, so confirm options and guest limits directly.
Between events, guests can join included snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips, a rainforest hike to a waterfall, the Savusavu farmers market or a kava ceremony at Nukubalavu village. The beachfront Spa Bure offers Fijian treatments, and diving runs with L'Aventure Jean-Michel Cousteau.
