Angelique Manto is getting married, but not in the way people expect.
The Filipina content creator and Miss Universe Philippines 2023 second runner-up recently shared the first entry of what she calls her “Anti-Bride Diaries,” a series documenting her wedding journey. The premise is clear from the start.
“I pretty much consider myself an anti-bride,” she said. “I have some left field choices from the traditional things in weddings.”
It is not rebellion for the sake of it. It is alignment.
For Angelique, the wedding is not about following a template. It is about creating something that reflects who she and her fiancé, David Guison, actually are.
Their story already hints at that mindset.
David proposed in Paris in December 2024, choosing Place des Vosges as the setting. The moment felt cinematic, but the details stayed true to her. Angelique was in an oversized leather jacket, scarf, and loose jeans, an outfit she later described as her “favorite fit check ever.”
She did not dress for a proposal. She dressed like herself.
That tone carries into how she is planning the wedding.
The engagement marked a shift, but not a transformation. She is not becoming a different version of herself as a bride. She is staying exactly who she has always been.
The most interesting part of her approach is not what she is including. It is what she is removing.
First, no big wedding.
“If you don’t know, I am an introvert,” she shared. Large crowds drain her, and she wants to be fully present on the day. So they set a rule for the guest list. Only people they both know and have a real connection with.
It changes the room immediately.
Second, no destination wedding.
Not because they do not like the idea, but because they want guests to show up without stress. No travel planning, no added logistics, just a day where people can arrive and enjoy.
Third, less outside opinion.
They are choosing not to share every detail ahead of time. Not out of secrecy, but to protect the experience. “We don’t want to be swayed by other people’s opinions,” she said.
It keeps the planning process clear.
Despite the “anti-bride” label, this is not a rejection of weddings.
She is keeping the parts that matter.
There will still be meaningful traditions. The ceremony will still hold weight. The structure of a wedding is still there, just edited.
And then there are the priorities.
Food, for one.
“We are not scrimping on food,” she said, laughing. It is one of the few details she spoke about with full certainty. Favorites will be served. A coffee station is already planned.
She wants to enjoy the reception, not just host it.
That detail alone says a lot about how she sees the day.
Angelique approaches this like a creative project.
“As a creative who’s getting married, I feel like our wedding is our way to welcome people into our world,” she explained.
That mindset shifts everything.
Instead of asking what a wedding should look like, she is asking what theirs should feel like. The answer includes non-traditional elements, personal choices, and moments that reflect their shared identity.
It is not about standing out. It is about being accurate.
There is a growing space for this kind of wedding.
