Sounds like a dream, right? A dream location for a wedding! But the perks of getting married in Greece extend far beyond a flawless landscape.
Just in case you aren’t convinced, here’s a few more reasons to hop a plane and get married in Santorini.
1. Greek Food
Let’s be honest, Greek food is amazing. Why not get married in a place where you can share the simple joys of a classic meze spread, moussaka or souvlaki?
2. Tour the Volcano
If you get the chance, taking a tour of the Palea Kameni volcano promises to be an unforgettable experience. If you enjoy walking on lava rocks and learning about the island’s past volcanic events, this is definitely for you.

3. Quad Bike Around the Island
The notoriously narrow streets of Santorini can be more easily navigated on foot. Alternatively, quad biking around the island is another convenient option, perfect for those really looking to make an entrance on their wedding day.
4. Village Hopping
Santorini is comprised of so many quaint villages that are just as worthwhile visiting. Firostefani and Imerovigli are just some of Santorini’s hidden gems, peppered with bars, shops and eateries to explore.

5. Enjoy the Beaches
Take advantage of the stunning coastline and spend your days (pre or post wedding) lounging beneath beach umbrellas or working on that tan. The beaches of Kamari and Perissa are must-sees.
6. Visit Ancient Akrotiri
Conserved by layers of lava, this archaeological site is also known as the “Pompeii of the Aegean.” Don’t you think these 3,500-year-old ruins tie in perfectly with a vintage theme?
7. Donkey Ride
You haven’t truly experienced Santorini until you’ve ridden a donkey down its rocky cliffs. Perhaps postpone that until your wedding dress is safely stored away though.

8. Wine Tour
Treat your guests to an education in Greek viniculture and lend your favourite vintage to the bar tab. Opt for one of Santorini’s vineyards as a reception venue, or simply take advantage of their quality selection.
9. Greek Culture
One simply cannot say ‘I do’ in Santorini without embracing some Greek cultural traditions. Get your guests involved by teaching them traditional Zorba dance steps, or smashing plates in the Greek spirit of expressing one’s emotions rather than suppressing them.
10. Go Sailing
If appreciating Santorini from the shore is too mainstream for you, feel free to admire the view from a luxury catamaran. The view alone would be a stunning photo op on your wedding day.

11. The Perfect Church Wedding
If a traditional church ceremony is what you’re looking for, you can’t go past the Catholic Cathedral in Fira. Renowned for its peach-coloured bell tower and pale blue interior, this church would be perfect for those seeking a simple yet elegant religious ceremony.
12. Swim in Hot Springs
Take a dip in the warm, sulphurous springs bordering the Palea Kameni volcano and reap the alleged healing benefits. We can think of no better way to ease those pre-wedding jitters.
13. Doubles as a Honeymoon Destination
Budget-wise, it makes sense to spend a little more time in such a stunning place after you’ve just pulled off a destination wedding. Kill two birds with one airfare package and recover from all the wedding madness on a neighboring island instead of rushing off elsewhere for the honeymoon.
