This talented and renowned photographer based in New York City will perfectly encapsulate the beauty and emotion of your big day. These two talented individuals collaborated and made magic together.
What inspired Gianna Grieco and yourself to collaborate on this shoot?
“I (Phillip Van Nostrand) reached out to Gianna after meeting her at a conference in Greece in 2021. I knew she and I were going to overlap at another conference in her home country of Switzerland and I really wanted to show more international work now that I was meeting more planners and vendors from abroad. I told her I had a vision of a snowy wedding shoot with highlights of red, animals, and a carriage. We got all of that and more in the mountains of St. Moritz!”
Have you shot couples in this climate/ environment before? What was the experience like?
“I don’t believe I’ve ever photographed in the snow before. It was beautiful and bright and not that cold, actually. It was near the end of Switzerland’s winter so a lot of the snow was melting. The challenge was shooting in the right direction to show more snow and also it was challenging walking on a frozen lake that was slowly melting away! But the shoot was fun, everyone was very professional which made it easy, and Gianna really came through with so many wonderful details.”
Despite the challenges of shooting in the snow for the first time and navigating a melting frozen lake, Phillip had a fun and memorable experience. The bright winter setting and Gianna’s attention to detail added a magical touch to the photographs.
What were some of your favourite elements and why?
“On the short hike to the lake area that we photographed there is a place where you can feed wild birds with bird seed. We figured out how to get birds to land on the bride’s hand and I got so many beautiful photos of the bride looking like Snow White talking to her birds. That was so much fun! I also loved coming back and shooting and the famous Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. It is an exceptional venue with vaulted ceilings like a castle and so appropriate for our look and theme.”
From the breathtaking mountain views to the intimate moments shared between you and your loved one, Phillip’s photographs will be a timeless reminder of the love and joy you experienced on your special day. It will be something straight out of a fairytale.
Philip’s advice for couples looking to get married in St. Moritz, Switzerland:
“Make sure to come out and scout around a lot before you come. There are many beautiful secrets around the area, and you can do really amazing things like host welcome parties at the top of the ski mountain, hike to nearby lakes, feed birds off your hand, etc.”
Gianna’s advice for couples looking to get married in St. Moritz, Switzerland:
“When the bride and groom decide to come to Switzerland to get married, it is not only for the wedding day but also for the overall experience. The Engadine is a paradise for sports but also a place of inspiration and tranquillity valley of untouched nature, full of cultural treasures, all with elegance, exclusivity and refinement. Guests from all over the world appreciate the modern Alpine lifestyle and the top-class restaurants that can satisfy the most demanding one.”
