If you’re a fan of romantic love stories, you’ll love hearing about the wedding of Olivia Burrows Sutherland and Lachlan Sutherland. This beautiful couple met when they were just teenagers and quickly became each other’s first loves. They recently tied the knot in a stunning Tuscan-inspired extravaganza that lasted three days, complete with custom fashion looks and unique touches that made their wedding truly one-of-a-kind.
Olivia Burrows Sutherland is a successful e-commerce entrepreneur and founder of the content creation company, Olivia & Living. She’s also known as Australia’s leading bridal fashion content creator, according to the Daily Express. Her now-husband, Lachlan Sutherland, hosted their lavish wedding weekend in the heart of the Hunter Valley, an area in New South Wales, Australia.
But let’s go back to the beginning – how did Olivia and Lachlan meet? Well, they were teenage best friends who turned into sweethearts. They first met at Olivia’s parents’ house when they were both 17 years old in 2011. And from that moment on, they have been inseparable.
In 2020, Lachlan proposed to Olivia in a sentimental and intimate way, right where they first met on her parents’ driveway. Then, they celebrated with their closest family and friends. Olivia always wanted her proposal to be intimate, and it was perfect.
For their wedding, the couple selected Redleaf, a stunning Tuscan-inspired venue in the Hunter Valley. They celebrated over two days, with a rehearsal dinner and wine tasting at Iron Gate Estate the day before. The wedding was full of unique touches, like incorporating a piece of Olivia’s mother’s wedding dress into her own gown.
As her parent’s only daughter, Olivia’s mother, Kerry Burrows, always dreamed of having an element of her wedding dress incorporated into Olivia’s wedding. Kerry surprised Olivia with custom diamond earrings that included pearls from her own wedding dress. However, Olivia had secretly redesigned her wedding dress to include elements of her mother’s dress. She worked with a local dressmaker, Olivia Waters, to bring her vision to life. The result was stunning, and Kerry was completely shocked and emotional when she saw her daughter wearing the reimagined dress at the wedding reception.
Throughout the weekend, Olivia wore six different custom fashion looks, including a Philosophy by Di Lorenzo Serafini dress for the rehearsal dinner and a custom robe by Amanda Barden on the morning of the wedding. She wore a custom-designed gown by Shehzarin Batha Couture X Tanya Grig for the wedding ceremony, a custom Oglia-loro Couture dress for the reception, and a vintage San Martin wedding dress from her mother for the after-party. The day after the wedding, Olivia wore a Kim Kassas Couture dress for their “recovery day.”
The groom and groomsmen wore custom-tailored suits by YSG Tailors, while the bridesmaids had two looks: a Dissh linen two-piece set for the ceremony and a Shona Joy mini dress for the reception. The MOB (mother of the bride) wore a long Shona Joy dress that matched the color of the bridesmaids’ second dress.
Olivia was particular about achieving a timeless, airy, and elegant feel with a nod to Italian artistry. Redleaf is colorful with hues of rendered pink and blues, so she wanted every other piece of styling to be classic, white, and minimal to allow the venue to shine. She even decided to have the ceremony located in an unusual position for the venue, falling in love with the view seen through the archway and the European-style background it offered. And for the evening, there was a shift to a sophisticated night-luxe/glitz and glam aesthetic, complete with a 1-meter traditional Italian wedding cake with a twist.
The wedding had some unique moments as well. For example, the wedding party was seated in the front row, and the bride choreographed their first dance, which was to a custom violin cover by Joel Sunny with vocals by good friend and musician Bonnie Anderson. Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple interviewed their guests with “Wedding Chats.”
To ensure that guests felt relaxed and in “holiday mode” throughout the entire duration of the wedding weekend, they were chauffeured to and from the festivities and offered a range of delectable European cuisine. And let’s not forget about the Recovery Day, which was also located at Redleaf, complete with woodfire pizzas and Italian desserts – including leftover wedding cake!
All in all, Olivia and Lachlan’s Tuscan-inspired wedding was a beautiful and unique celebration of their love. From the stunning fashion looks to the sentimental touches, it’s clear that this couple is meant to be together.
