What Are the Wedding Trends Right Now?

The biggest wedding trends right now are deep plum and olive palettes, opal shimmer, drapery backdrops, unexpected venues like jazz clubs, quirky cakes and handmade keepsakes. That's according to Pinterest's 2026 Wedding Trends Report, published in April and built on more than 7 billion wedding-related searches and 16.7 billion saved ideas.

In Pinterest's words, "Couples aren't just planning weddings, they're rewriting them."

1. Plum, Olive and Other Rooted Romance Colours

Searches for "plum and olive wedding" rose 1,380%, with "muted terracotta" up 545%, "fig wedding" up 515% and "merlot wedding" up 370%, Pinterest reports.

Try pairing one deep shade with a softer one, such as plum with dusty olive, then repeat them in flowers, linen and stationery. Our guide to 2026 wedding colour trends has more palettes to start from.

2. Ethereal Shimmer and Opal Tones

At the other end of the palette, "opalite aesthetic" searches jumped 2,710% and "opalescent aesthetic" 685%, alongside "purple opal" and "chrome wedding".

To get the look, consider soft coloured lighting, mirrored surfaces or clear acrylic rather than covering every surface in sparkle.

3. Unexpected Venues With Real Character

"Jazz club wedding" searches climbed 1,115%, "enchanted palace" 545% and "speakeasy lounge" 225%, with cinemas, mini chapels and glass greenhouses also on the list.

If you're drawn to somewhere unusual, check its capacity, licensing and wet-weather options before you fall for it.

4. Drapery Backdrops and Flower Installations

"Drapery backdrop" searches grew 1,510% and "stained glass wedding arch" 750%, while "flower installations" went up 195%.

If your venue feels plain, draping is worth pricing up alongside flowers when you're deciding how to warm up the room.

5. Sensory Styling Guests Can Touch and Smell

"Flower bar set-up" searches are up 870%, with "vegetable centrepieces" up 380%, "lavender decoration" up 185% and "perfume bar wedding" up 140%.

A flower bar, where guests build a small posy to take home, doubles as a favour. Herbs and lavender in the centrepieces add scent without heavy fragrance.

6. Quirky Cakes With a Sense of Humour

Searches for "flower pot cake ideas" increased 715%, "wedding cake tiramisu" 635% and "kitsch cake" 545%, with lyrics cakes, polka dots and tarot cakes also climbing.

If you'd still like a classic cake, add the personality in one detail, such as a song lyric, a favourite colour or a second, smaller cake that's just for fun.

7. Analogue Activities and Nostalgic Tech

"Written songs" searches soared 1,975%, "button pictures" 1,140% and "unique wedding activities" 720%. On the tech side, "wedding projector" is up 625% and "video guestbook" 240%.

Think playing cards, a printed wedding game, a newspaper-style photobooth or a vinyl guest book. These pair well with a phone-free wedding, and our round-up of TikTok wedding trends covers more ideas couples are sharing.

8. Statement Headwear and Bridal Accessories

Searches for "fascinator styles" jumped 1,865%, with "juliet veil cap" up 245% and "pearl headdress" up 225%. Shoes are getting louder too, from ballerina heels to plum and green bridal shoes.

A hat, a cap veil or a pearl headpiece can carry the whole look, so keep the rest of the outfit simple and let one accessory lead. For the groom, the report also shows rising searches for men's jewellery and pink silk suits, and our guide to groom fashion trends has more.

9. Soft-Drama Hair and Full-Glam Make-Up

Bridal beauty is getting bolder. "Telenovela hair" searches climbed 895% and "soft side part" 840%, with "pammy updo" and "infinity bun" both up more than 240%. On the make-up side, "vintage hollywood make-up" and "wedding make-up full glam" are each up 395%.

Book a trial with your hair and make-up artist and bring photos of the exact look you want, so you can see how it holds up with your veil or headpiece.

How to Make a Trend Your Own

You don't need all nine. A plum palette and a flower bar will say more than a little of everything. For the full detail behind these numbers, read our breakdown of Pinterest's 2026 report.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the biggest wedding trends right now?
Pinterest's 2026 Wedding Trends Report points to deep plum and olive palettes, opal shimmer, drapery backdrops, unexpected venues such as jazz clubs, quirky cakes, analogue activities and statement headwear. The report is built on more than 7 billion wedding-related searches and 16.7 billion saved ideas from the past year.
What wedding colours are trending in 2026?
Earthy, moody shades are rising. Pinterest reports searches for "plum and olive wedding" up 1,380%, "muted terracotta" up 545% and "fig wedding" up 515%. At the lighter end, opal and iridescent tones are climbing too, with "opalite aesthetic" up 2,710% and "chrome wedding" up 340%.
Are traditional weddings going out of style?
Pinterest's report suggests couples are reworking them. Searches are climbing for personal touches like quirky cakes, written songs and handmade activities, alongside unconventional venues such as jazz clubs and speakeasies. You can keep the traditions you love and make the details yours.
How do I use trends without dating my photos?
Let one or two trends lead and keep the foundations classic. A trending colour in the flowers or a fun cake is easy to love later, while a neutral gown and timeless venue keep the photos from feeling tied to one year. Choose trends you'd want even if nobody else was doing them.
