Choosing the right Wedding gown is more than just picking a beautiful style. Finding a colour that suits your skin tone is just as important as finding a silhouette that suits your body shape. Some tones can wash you out (leaving you more vampire than English rose) and others can give your skin a sickly yellow look.
We spoke with Madina from The SPOSA Group to find out which colour is for you.
The first step is to identify whether you’re a warm or cool-skinned beauty and the best way to do this is to look at the skin on the underside of your elbow or wrist. If your veins appear to have a blue, red or pink tinge, your skin has cool tones; if your veins appear yellow, golden or peachy, you have warm colourings.
Now that you’ve determined whether you’re warm or cool, decide whether your skin colour is fair, medium or dark and that will determine your perfect Wedding gown tone!
‘Warm Lights’ generally have strawberry blonde, gold or auburn hair and hazel, green or aqua eyes. The best Wedding gown colours are soft hues like champagne, ivory and salmon pink.
If you’re a ‘Cool Light’, you probably have pale, ashy or white blonde hair and blue, green or hazel eyes. Your Wedding gown should be a sparkling silver, sky blue or pale lilac colour.
‘Warm Medium’ girls have red, auburn, chestnut or deep brown hair and green, brown, hazel or aqua eyes. The perfect gown for ‘Warm Mediums’ should be antique gold!
‘Cool Mediums’ have brown or dark blonde hair and brown or blue eyes. They look best in cool neutrals and taupes and can even pull of a silver grey gown!
These Brides-To-Bes have brown, mahogany or black hair paired with brown, hazel or green eyes. The best Wedding gowns for these beauties have warm bronze or terracotta undertones.
‘Cool Dark’ girls have deep brown or jet black hair and blue, grey or green eyes. For these ladies, Madina recommends opting for the traditional cool white coloured gown.
