Sofia Franklyn’s Wedding Weekend in Lake Como Was the Ultimate Italian Escape

Sofia Franklyn’s Wedding Weekend in Lake Como Was the Ultimate Italian Escape

Former Call Her Daddy co-host Sofia Franklyn married John Messamore in a three-day Lake Como wedding celebration featuring a Vera Wang gown, intimate Italian experiences and 140 guests.

Sofia Franklyn is officially a married woman, and naturally, she did not settle for a single wedding day.

The former Call Her Daddy co-host and Sofia with an F podcast host married John Messamore in Italy, turning their Lake Como celebration into three days of dinners, pasta, wine, art and plenty of very good wedding outfits. The couple legally married in an intimate ceremony on July 31 before celebrating with their family and friends across some of the most picturesque corners of the Italian lake on August 2.

Franklyn announced the news on Instagram with a characteristically understated caption: “8.2.26 🦢.” The photos, however, did most of the talking.

With 140 guests in attendance, the wedding weekend moved through several locations around Lake Como, eventually culminating at the historic Villa Pizzo in Cernobbio. The overall itinerary had the feeling of a beautifully planned Italian holiday, except the final destination was an altar.

Three Days, Three Very Different Wedding Moments

The celebrations began with an outdoor welcome dinner at Piazza Roma in Argegno, setting the tone for a weekend that leaned heavily into the romance of Lake Como.

The following day brought a more relaxed itinerary at Villino Rubini in Brunate, where guests took part in pasta making, wine tasting and watercolor painting. It is difficult to imagine a better way to convince wedding guests they have officially entered vacation mode.

The main celebration followed on August 2 at Villa Pizzo, one of Lake Como's historic villas, where Franklyn and Messamore exchanged vows before celebrating with their guests.

The result was a wedding weekend that felt less like a single event and more like an entire experience. Every day offered something different, while the Italian setting gave the festivities a natural sense of occasion without requiring much extra drama.

The Legal Ceremony Was Surprisingly Intimate

Before the larger celebration, Franklyn and Messamore quietly made things official on July 31.

The pair held their legal ceremony at Villino Rubini with just two witnesses present. The logistics were slightly unconventional, with ordained minister Brandon Bear Bangs officiating remotely over Zoom from Utah. The couple had obtained their marriage license in Utah, allowing the ceremony to be legally solemnized under Utah law.

Their larger Lake Como ceremony two days later was led by relationship coach Shelley J. Whitehead, who had previously worked with the couple during an intensive relationship retreat before their engagement.

That detail makes the wedding feel particularly personal. The couple did not simply choose a beautiful destination and invite everyone along. They also incorporated someone who had played a meaningful role in their relationship before they ever reached the altar.

A Vera Wang Bride

For the main ceremony, Franklyn wore a custom Vera Wang strapless trumpet gown reimagined from an archival design.

The silhouette was sleek and sculptural, with the fitted trumpet shape creating a dramatic outline without overwhelming the bride. Lace appliqué detailing added texture to the gown, while a custom cathedral-length Vera Wang veil brought the traditional bridal drama.

It was a particularly fitting choice for a wedding that balanced old-world surroundings with a more modern fashion sensibility.

Franklyn later changed into a custom mini dress by New York-based designer and stylist Kate March for the after-party, making the outfit transition from ceremony elegance to late-night celebration feel entirely intentional.

Messamore kept things classic in a House of Vinterberg tuxedo featuring a white dinner jacket and black bow tie. He paired the look with John Lobb shoes and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.

In other words, the dress code understood the assignment.

The Proposal Was Much More Low-Key

The Lake Como wedding may have been an Italian production, but the proposal itself was remarkably cozy.

Messamore proposed in August 2025 while the couple were staying at Airelles Gordes, La Bastide in Provence, France. The setting was their bed, where he popped the question over pancakes and a bottle of rosé.

Franklyn later announced the engagement on Instagram with the caption, “The OG man-eater is engaged.”

The couple had met nearly a year earlier through matchmaking agency Maclynn International. Their connection reportedly went beyond the usual dating-app small talk, with the pair bonding over books, philosophy, religion and even conversations about free will.

That intellectual chemistry became an important part of their relationship. Rather than presenting a perfectly identical worldview, the couple described their connection as one built around curiosity, conversation and a sense of synergy.

The Lake Como Wedding We Want to Steal Ideas From

Franklyn and Messamore's celebration makes a strong case for treating a destination wedding as an entire guest experience rather than simply relocating the ceremony.

A welcome dinner can introduce the destination. A hands-on activity can bring guests together. A leisurely day can create memories before the main event. Then, when the wedding arrives, everyone is already immersed in the story.

That is the real appeal of a multi-day celebration. It gives couples more than one opportunity to celebrate, and guests more than one reason to remember the trip.

Franklyn's Lake Como wedding just happened to do it with Italian food, historic villas, a Vera Wang gown and a lake view that could make even the most committed homebody consider booking a flight.
