Serena Williams’ Star-Studded Fairytale-Inspired Wedding

We need to take a moment to talk about Serena Williams’ wedding.

The legendary tennis star married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in a star-studded wedding inspired by Beauty and The Beast and the photos are so full of love and joy, you won’t be able to stop smiling.

Surrounded by 200 family and friends and their two-month old daughter,  Alexis “Olympia” Ohanian, Jr., Serena and Alexis married at the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans on November 16th – a poignant date in honour of Alexis’ mother’s birthday, who passed away nine years ago.

There were a bevy of stars in attendance, including (of course) Serena’s sister Venus, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and her mother Tina, Anna Wintour, Ciara, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, and Meghan Markle.

As Serena told Vogue, “I wanted the whole thing to be as non-traditional as possible,” and had sofas instead of chairs during the ceremony, all of which were facing the aisle rather than the altar.

With her bridesmaids in Galia Lahav gowns, Serena chose three different dresses for the day. The first was a princess gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the second was a feathered Versace dress that took five embroiderers to create, and the third was a short-fitted Versace dress.

With a Beauty and The Beast theme in mind, the song ‘Be Our Guest’ played while food from all around the world was served. The pièce de résistance in the theme choice was the band playing ‘Tale As Old As Time’ as the couple had their first dance – one they had spent plenty of time practising.

While the event was filled with constant excitement, a major highlight came at 1:30am, when Alexis took to the mic to announce his final surprise for his new bride – an all-white carousel, which everyone (including Beyoncé) jumped onto as ‘Pony’ by Ginuwine played.

Take a look through the stunning photos, via Vogue, and try to suppress your FOMO.
