Most couples plan the proposal for months. Nick planned his around one rule: Ksenia should never feel watched. Five years on from a first date on Pyrmont Bridge, the couple married in Uluwatu, planned by Plan A Bali, in a day built on one idea. Nobody in the room gets left out of the moment.
Nick Taylor proposed to Ksenia Pankratova at home. They had been out for dinner to mark their fifth anniversary, and Ksenia was changing into her comfiest couch clothes when he realised it was the moment. He wanted to remember her exactly as she was: happy, beautiful and completely unaware.
So he dropped to one knee. Her first words were: "Are you sure?"

He was absolutely sure. And, as the couple put it, that exchange sums up their whole relationship.
They matched on Hinge in 2019. The first date was a walk from Pyrmont Bridge along Darling Harbour. Nick remembers the sunset putting a golden glow in Ksenia's eyes. Ksenia remembers how easy it was to talk to him from the first minute.
What followed was less grand gesture, more accumulation: trips across Australia, Russia and Europe, snakes encountered on walks, endless conversation, countless episodes watched before bed, and a late-night grocery run because Ksenia suddenly needed a KitKat. (Ksenia's verdict: Nick is "a man of action", someone who doesn't always say he cares because he shows it.)

Nick's love language is also surprise parties, with mixed results. For Ksenia's 24th, he arranged friends, a restaurant and a private cinema. Then it rained. Ksenia refused to leave the house and suggested cancelling. Friends waited almost forty minutes. Nick finally got her out the door by telling her he'd already pre-paid for their "fake dinner plans." The surprise survived the weather, and Ksenia's stubbornness.

Here's the detail we can't stop thinking about. Ksenia and Nick's non-negotiable wasn't a venue, a dress or a florist. It was that everything was translated into both English and Russian, so that every guest could follow and enjoy every moment.
Think about how many weddings are quietly run for one side of the room while the other side smiles along. This one was designed so both sides of their lives felt equally comfortable and included, from the first word of the ceremony to the last song.

For anyone planning a multicultural or multilingual wedding, this is the template. Decide early that inclusion is part of the brief rather than an afterthought. Their celebrant, Davina of My Bali Celebrant, delivered the ceremony, and much of the couple's love story in this feature is drawn from her speech.
The couple's other two non-negotiables were just as deliberate:
Spend the day with the people you invited. They did a first look before the ceremony so they could be present for cocktail hour with everyone. Most couples lose that hour to photos. They protected it.
Good food and drink. Nick would tell you the sliders were non-negotiable. Salud Bar handled drinks, Bali Good Food the catering, and Gelato Factory the dessert.
Their style brief: beautiful and elevated, but warm, intimate and "very much like us."

Plan A Bali brought it together at Wonderland Uluwatu, balancing that elevated-yet-warm brief with a day that ran for two languages and a full evening of entertainment. A live painter from Eventpainter.id worked on site. Lucky Aces played live, DJ PID took over after, and AllSet's dance floor and disco ball kept it going, with sound and light by TwinBrothers.
"Don't get too caught up in what you should have or what other weddings look like. Focus on what matters to you as a couple. And on the day itself, let go of the little things that don't go exactly to plan. You genuinely won't notice them, and you'll remember how the day felt so much more than the tiny details."
That's the Wedded Wonderland read on it too. Start with what the day should feel like, then build the plan around it.
