Real Wedding: A Traditional Macedonian Wedding with a Modern Twist

Keeping with tradition this beautiful wedding has all the elements of a cultural Macedonian wedding; the huge guest list, the drums, the music, festivities and the grand bridal pick up…all with a wonderful modern twist.

Nick’s proposal to Melissa is truly storybook material. During a trip to Thailand where they were staying at the most spectacular cliff top resort, Nick had organised a romantic private 7-course dinner. Surrounded by candles, stunning ocean views, and the general ambience Nick made his grand gesture on one knee with a small orchestra playing behind him – how could she say no?

And so the magic continued.

Wanting to make sure they upheld their Macedonian traditions, their wedding day started with lots of food, drinks and 100 friends and family as they prepared for the big day at their family homes. Nick had a traditional shaving (with an axe!) and Melissa had her wedding shoes with a gift of money inside, delivered to her by the best man.

The real highlight was the bridal pick up. “We wanted to embrace this tradition,” explains Melissa. “Nick arrived with all the guests from his house with an entourage which included a 60 seater bus filled with interstate and international guests and a row of Lamborghinis, Rolls Royce, Mercedes and Audis”. But the fun didn’t stop there. The groom led his entourage into the middle of the street where both families joined together with music and dancing.

The music and dancing continued with their reception at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney. With a gorgeous view of the harbour, the reception was styled with modern and glam features. The bridal table was embellished with rows and rows of pillar candles, encased with soft white and pink flowers by Romantika Floral Designs, and the table centrepieces featuring lavish spheres of flowers were complimented with modern glass candelabras.

With absolutely nothing she would change, Melissa says “Every single moment I will forever re-live in my head”.
