Can we get married on a boat in Ha Long Bay?
Yes, as a symbolic ceremony on board, with the islands all around you. A legal wedding usually is not possible for two visiting foreigners, because Vietnamese law does not regulate marriages between two non-Vietnamese citizens unless one holds a residence permit. Most couples marry legally at home first, then hold the celebration on the water.
What happens if a storm closes Ha Long Bay on our wedding day?
No boats may leave while the authorities close the bay, usually for a day or two, and the risk is highest between July and September. We agree a land-based backup plan with the cruise line before you book, so the ceremony can go ahead on shore and the voyage moves to the next clear day.
Which Ha Long Bay cruise ship suits our guest list?
It depends on your numbers. Indochina Sails runs three ships, each chartered privately for weddings. Indochine Grand, with 32 rooms, suits 50 to 64 guests. Indochine Premium, with 37 rooms, is the larger option for 60 to 110. Indochine Cruise, with 45 rooms, takes 50 to 100 and has a more traditional, heritage feel.
Do guests sleep on board for a Ha Long Bay wedding?
Yes. Everyone stays in the ship's cabins on a two-day, one-night or three-day, two-night itinerary, so the wedding becomes a short voyage together. Indochine Premium adds a piano lounge, outdoor jacuzzi and spa, while Indochine Grand has a rooftop bar, an infinity pool and a mini golf green at the bow.
