  • Cape Kudu Hotel, Koh Yao Noi

Plan a wedding in Koh Yao

On Koh Yao Yai you marry on a kilometre of private sand, with a Western celebrant or a Thai ceremony with an exchange of floral garlands. For a longer celebration, a Baraat can lead you down to the beach on the wedding day.

On Koh Yao Noi, cocktails are poured on the beach as the sun drops behind the headland, and the party can carry on late with private waiting staff.

Get your guests to Koh Yao

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Phuket International Airport (HKT); Krabi is another option for boats from Tha Len.
  • Transfer: From Phuket airport, guests drive to Bang Rong Pier on the east coast, then cross by boat, calling at Koh Yao Yai before Koh Yao Noi.

Give your guests more of Koh Yao

Days around the wedding fill easily:

  • Phang Nga Bay by boat: Join a day cruise or kayak trip among the bay's limestone islands, leaving right from the islands.
  • Cycling Koh Yao Noi: Ride the flat ring road past rubber plantations, rice fields and fishing villages.
  • Hornbill spotting: Look for the hornbills that use the islands as a sanctuary, at least 4 species of them.
  • Island hop by longtail: Cross between Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi in 10 to 15 minutes from Chonglad Pier.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Koh Yao

Are there local customs we should plan around on Koh Yao?+
Yes. Around 90 per cent of Koh Yao's people are Muslim, and the islands are rural fishing and farming communities. We ask your resort how it handles alcohol, music and dress for events, and brief guests to cover up when they leave the resort for villages and piers. A small, respectful celebration sits best here.
Can our photographer use a drone on Koh Yao?+
Only with approval. Cape Kudu Hotel does not allow drones without management sign-off, so tell the hotel early if your photographer plans aerial shots of the bay. The hotel's beach and gardens give plenty of ground-level settings for portraits, so the album does not depend on a drone.
Can we hold the reception in a marquee on Koh Yao Yai?+
Yes. Anantara Koh Yao Yai sets its beachfront lawn with marquees for evening receptions, a few steps from the beach where most ceremonies take place. Dinner can also be served in the open-air garden, and the main pool is used for pre-wedding rituals such as a Haldi. Villa hosts look after guests in the pool villas and penthouses.
How late do boats run to Koh Yao for wedding guests?+
Until about 17:30 on the public service, which runs 12 departures a day from 07:45. Guests landing in the evening may need a night in Phuket first. Anantara Koh Yao Yai runs private boat transfers to its jetty from Phuket or Krabi, about a 35-minute ride, which suits late arrivals.
Why does Cape Kudu on Koh Yao Noi hold weddings on the second day of a stay?+
So you arrive by boat and settle in first. Cape Kudu Hotel on Koh Yao Noi sets the wedding on the second day of a 2-night stay, with formats for the couple alone or groups of 4 to 20. Receptions can be a seated set menu or a relaxed buffet at Baan Yu Yen, a 2-bedroom pool villa on 1,315 square metres.
