Choose your venue in Venice

Both venues below hold an offer with us for your wedding in Venice.

  • San Clemente Palace Venice

Wed in an island church from 1131 in the Venice lagoon, with your guests staying there.

  • Scuola Grande dei Carmini

Say your vows beneath Tiepolo's painted ceiling, in a 17th-century hall in Dorsoduro.

Plan a wedding in Venice

At San Clemente you can also marry in the Mediterranean gardens with Venice on the horizon, then gather in the enclosed courtyards for aperitivo. The Scuola Grande dei Carmini still runs as a historic institution and museum, so a ceremony there stays small and quiet.

Dinner can be on a terrace facing the lagoon after aperitivo at the Sunset Bar. Between events, guests on the island have a heated outdoor pool and a spa with sauna and hammam, and the Kids and Juniors Club keeps younger guests busy.

Get your guests to Venice

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Venice Marco Polo (VCE), about 7.5 km northeast of the city centre, is the main airport.
  • Transfer: From the airport, guests cross the lagoon by water bus, or take a water taxi straight to their hotel's door.

Give your guests more of Venice

Days around the wedding fill easily.

  • Murano and Burano

Take the water bus to see glassmaking on Murano and the painted houses of Burano.

  • St Mark's Square

Visit the basilica and the Doge's Palace in the heart of the city.

  • Gondola ride

See the smaller canals from the water on a gondola.

  • The Lido

Spend an afternoon on the lagoon's long beach island.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Venice

Can we marry in a palace on the Grand Canal in Venice?+
Yes, at Palazzo Cavalli, a 16th century palace near the Rialto Bridge where the Comune di Venezia holds weddings and civil unions. Several furnished rooms on the main floor are used only for ceremonies, and the largest has windows over the Grand Canal. Ceremonies can be held on any day of the week, and the Palazzo del Podesta at Malamocco on the Lido is another option.
Does the Venice access fee apply to our wedding guests?+
Generally not to guests staying overnight. The fee applies to day visitors aged 14 and over on set days, and guests in Venice accommodation are usually exempt because they already pay the tourist tax, though they may still need to register. We check the official portal for the current dates and send guests the steps with their travel details.
Is acqua alta a problem for a Venice wedding?+
It can be. Acqua alta, the seasonal flood tide, affects the city mainly between autumn and early spring, and low areas such as St Mark's Square flood first. We check with your venue how it handles high water, and give guests advice on footwear and routes so nobody arrives at the ceremony with wet feet.
Can we marry in a church on an island in the Venice lagoon?+
Yes. San Clemente Palace covers the whole Isola di San Clemente, and its Romanesque church sits at the heart of the island. The estate holds up to 600 guests across courtyards, terraces and indoor spaces, and the hotel boat reaches St Mark's Square in about 10 minutes, every 30 minutes.
Where can a small group marry under a Tiepolo ceiling in Venice?+
In the Sala Capitolare of the Scuola Grande dei Carmini in Dorsoduro, where Giambattista Tiepolo took on the ceiling in 1739. The Scuola, seat of a confraternity founded in 1594, tailors layouts for small groups. Most couples take portraits in the nearby campi, then go by water taxi or on foot to dinner at a restaurant or hotel elsewhere in the city.
